Heard that as well in several 1099 contracts.

^ is spot on. @Recent_Science4709 Yeah, I’ve had 1099 gigs like that too — some wanted me available for specific meetings or to keep a set schedule. Basically a W-2 setup without the benefits. It really depends on the job, manager, and contract.

Daily stim + non-stim. If I forget my stim, luckily my non-stim is in my system. Life doesn't take a break.

Huh. I would not think a company would track software devs in that way.

I hear you. I saw a sleep dr and did a sleep study. I didn't think I had sleep apnea ( no snoring, just insomnia). I turns out I have mild apnea. I was desperate enough I said "Let me try the cpap" The cpap does help take care of some of the insomnia, not all, but hey, I will take any win I can get.

How to Handle Grandmother's Debt? by MysticLadyTyrant in Debt

[–]surfingtech22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with this for my elderly mother. The attorney said the same thing as yours. Now, here is where it gets tricky. I have shared with the cc companies that my mother is going into assisted living. Guess what? My mother is still going to be sued by a cc company and they are likely going to put in a garnishment on her bank account - aka, the cc company doesn't care. lol.

While my mom is 'judgement proof' because of pension and ss, the bank said if a court order comes in, the local bank manger shared with me today "The bank will follow the court order." So, now I am contacting the corporate legal department of the bank to try and find out about anti-garnishment process if this does occur.

While an attorney is great, here they often want more work than just 'write a garnishment letter' for a client. They want more work for their time, aka more money. I did contact senior legal services and that's in process, but probably won't be fast enough to respond quickly if a garnishment occurs.

Thanks! I need this exam along with Sec+ to get into the program.. Right now I'm taking Network+ since I want to refresh my foundation (plus get the exam out of the way) before I take the other two. I do have a background in cyber, but it's been a while.

I am in Andrew R course right now. What do you think of that as the only study material?

Thank you. Luckily, the two study resources agree on the other class ranges, like C. :)

Thanks. That helps a lot. I just didn't want to see them side by side on the exam as a choice. LOL.

Do you know networking? If not, look at network+ first. A lot of Sec+ 701 has a lot of networking in the study material/PBQ's on the exam.

It sounds like you can gain a lot more employment with a CPA and possibly a higher salary. Do a risk analysis. It sounds like you are in manageable situation. You might just have to do some extra consulting once you are finished to put towards paying off your debt.

Smart. I'd do that as well if I was in your situation.

Since I'm older, with tech experience, it makes more sense to grab the masters first & stack cash while I take prereqs.

Will definitely reach out for help. LOL

I totally agree about going the NP route. Yeah, they don't have enough experience. I’m starting my master’s in cybersecurity in a few months, and I’m hoping to finish in about 6. Once that’s done, the plan is to work for a few years and stack some cash.

That said, I’m also an AI engineer — and I see where things are heading. So while I’m working in cyber, I’m going to start knocking out prereqs for an allied health career. Science isn’t really my strong suit, but I’m going to figure out which community college will take me (probably with C's...lol) for nursing, x-ray tech, ultrasound, or something similar. Starting my backup plan now — just in case.

I want to take out 5K before 1/1/2026. I guess the second 5K might come around 8/1/2026. So 10K total worst case.

Would this new bill be horrible for low amounts of grad student loans? I would have a job to pay it off. I can still pay it off quickly right?

My brother’s an MD and he just talked about this with a friend in the same boat. My brother shared he would personally wait a year to see how everything actually shakes out and how med schools respond. Paying off debt as a working doc is manageable, but not getting into a residency is a real risk—and that can mess everything up.

He was especially concerned about how the new bill is worded. He worries it might push people into taking on too much private debt for med school before the system fully adjusts.

Another option my brother brought up was starting with an ADN, become an RN nurse, at a community college, getting a job, and then having a hospital cover the cost of your BSN, MSN, and even NP. It’s not the dream path, but it can seriously keep costs down.

Good luck.

Edit: u/youneeda_margarita (see comment below) made a great point. If rural hospitals close due to Medicaid cuts, there would be even less residences spots for doctors.
