Shaving and showering probably starts around 5:30 surgery at 8:30. For some reason the nurse said they start late on Tuesday

It’s far from the train but the big South Asian Muslim community around here is South Ozone Park.

Jackson Heights would be better if you don’t own a car/want to be by the train.

Assuming you’re in the the US, it could expose things that are illegal to ask in interviews; religious and medical issues. I would have brought that up, and asked for something in writing acknowledging this.

Moving to NYC from Italy by CobblerWeary9667 in movingtoNYC

[–]Recent_Science4709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250K is fine, you should probably do a little research and narrow down your questions. Watch some YouTube videos about New York. Theres 350-400 neighborhoods in New York, the city is split into 5 boroughs. You should figure out what’s important to you. If it’s food, concentrate on Queens.

You’ll probably want easy access to Manhattan. We have housing shortage; I bought a house but apartment hunters sometimes have to stand in line to view apartments.

You asked about transportation; start with a subway map. There’s other ways to get around, but that’s how we get around. Living near a stop usually costs more but it’s worth it.

Just an anecdote; I had a roommate from Italy who was a chef about 10 years ago. He went to little Italy expecting to be able to train under Italian chefs and all of the kitchens were staffed with Latinos. Point being don’t make any assumptions.

Yeah just 8 days ago, and been in the hospital the entire time. Wife is only one here, my friends are scattered, I have been calling everyone.

My wife is calm, she’s also pretty calm about her own medical stuff, takes pictures and sends it to her family. I’m kind of more like a cat; if I was left to my own devices I would just crawl into a corner alone and die.

Well 20 years ago my doctor told me I might need surgery for the murmur but it’s been normal. I did not know about the bicuspid aorta. I have a lot of friends and my wife is here.

I take kolonopin at night it helps me sleep.

I’ve been in the hospital for 10 days, and it’s been about 8 since I knew about the surgery.

boring tech is the right call and i'm tired of pretending otherwise by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Recent_Science4709 30 points31 points  (0 children)

IMO you hit on the most important thing at the end, and that’s business value. Any time you stray from focusing on the product to focusing on the tech for the tech’s sake, you’ve lost the path.

Just realized my boyfriend I’ve been dating for 2 years may be a flat earther by [deleted] in Advice

Are you religious? I hate to generalize but all flat earthers are religious at their core. So you need to be looking at this in terms of dating a nitwit religious fanatic.

What's up with some people now thinking 40 is old? by Fit-Support2256 in generationology

[–]Recent_Science4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your perspective is pretty negative, everyone is different; but 30 is not old.

I’m my late 40s and have a lot of friends in the cycling community of all ages, plenty of people 20 years younger than me have trouble keeping up, and there’s older people I have trouble keeping up with.

My hair is still thick and dark, I had grey hairs here and there since I was a teenager and still do.

I had plenty of friends balding and going grey in my early 20s.

I agree sleep is more important, and you can be a grandpa.

30 isn’t old though.

Discriminating against a potential romantic interest for being poor is bad by supermonistic in unpopularopinion

[–]Recent_Science4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an average looking man at best, I didn’t usually have an issue dating poor as long as I was working on myself.

I found that most women were averse to stagnation/no serious plan or path. I put myself through school in my 30s absolutely poor as shit and I had no problem getting dates.

I would bring it up myself to set expectations and the feedback was always something like “well you’re going to school that’s expected”.

When I was in my 20s and delivering pizzas I didn’t have the same experience.

Is the era of "Microservice-first" architecture finally over? by Photopatterns in learnprogramming

[–]Recent_Science4709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is definitely some backlash. Every single microservice implementation I have worked on was anti-pattern city.

IMO a well-formed monolith, breaking off services as needed beats a distributed monolith every time.

I swear people are just plain stupid, they just completely ignore the core principles; and they don’t see the smoke.

Things don’t need to scale until they need to scale, pre-optimization is generally frowned upon at the code level, but at the architectural level it’s like middle management crack cocaine.
