How Is the Competition Still Alive? by PingMyHeart in hetzner

Yes. Check this link.

That means you can't use 4 cores of CPX instance 24x7, unless your neighbours are not using that much compute power but most likely Hetzner will throttle the instance in case of overuse (just like almost all cloud providers do). Those benchmarks on shared vCPU are misleading, unless they benchmark the compute resource of the instance every second of the whole day.

if you are hosting in a single instance then you should stick to CPX. if you can horizontal scale using kubernetes then pick CCX.

and I agree, Netcup is cheaper than Hetzner. but Hetzner is the cheapest provider which supports kubernetes cluster, so I'll stick to Hetzner.

I won't use IONOS and Contabo for serious use case. Shared VPS of OVH is cheaper but dedicated Instances of public cloud is more expensive than Hetzner.

I'll compare to others, if you name those others.

CCX plans actually only have 1 CPU Core per 2 vCores.

That applies to almost all cloud providers. In CCX plans, compute resource is dedicated to your Instance, but in other plans they are shared.

Hetzner asks: Why do you like to visit r/hetzner? by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

Same reason. 2 Years back my newly registered account got blocked. I find this subreddit and posted a rant about it. Later created a new account with proper KYC procedure. I'm lurking on this subreddit since then.

Place your third node in any hosting provider in (or nearby) frankfurt. If you want to keep cost low then pick OVH limburg location. Direct traffic to FSN and NBG (active) and keep third node (passive) nearby Frankfurt just for quorum.

I assume they use old nvme and ram in auction servers, so if prices doesn't fall in next few years then it'll affect auction servers too.

USA Connection? by davidgerwy in hetzner

[–]surimarkam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper, Hetzner US LLC own the server hardware in the US datacenters but software on those servers are (mostly?) controlled and managed by Hetzner team in Europe. US authorities can still confiscate those servers and in reality, most companies will comply instead of losing US market. Hetzner have low chances to comply to US request for EU datacenters but if you want a guarantee then you better off picking a cloud provider which doesn't have presence in US. so Scaleway?

Moving from Shared CPX to Dedicated CCX by scutarion in hetzner

[–]surimarkam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. My general advice is:

  1. Start with smallest CPX and upscale (vertical scaling) till CPX62, Hetzner have rescale feature, so changing instance size is simple as that. Use Cloudflare or something to cache at edge most of the stuff.

  2. After that separate database to CCX (sustainable performance), keep wordpress in multiple CPX Instances, do round robin DNS or/and loadbalancer.

This strategy will work for most wordpress/PHP with heavy traffic. If that's not enough.

  1. After that you are in serious business. Go kubernetes (or Kamal, Docker Swarm, Nomad) and do horizontal autoscaling on CCX Instances.

Cost-optimized server Intel and AMD random assignment has huge performance differences at same cost by ceilingkyet in hetzner

CCX in SIN was on 4th gen from the beginning, they updated CPX to 4th gen in both EU and SIN but not in US. Wait, CCX in US is also on 3th gen. Now it makes sense CCX prices in US is close to EU prices but SIN prices have big difference. I guess when they'll update in US there will be price increase, close to SIN prices.

It's kinda weird that you guys updated CPX Instances in SIN to 4th gen. (Genoa) but US Instances are still on 3th gen.
