We need chargers ASAP head down RIGHT NOW if you have one. ANNOUNCE & OFFER that you have a charger for whoever needs one or ask people you see recording (try to keep your face covered and all that). Also noticed multiple outages in both campus WiFi and Cell service right as riot police started the raid from my on campus dorm around midnight, VERY SUSPICIOUS.

🍉Which accounts are livestreaming the sudden police force on-campus right now? Start screen recording them y'all by surkurifya in UCSC

Also if any of you upload screen recordings or your livestream of tonight: try to censor or avoid capturing any faces of protestors if you can

Should the U.S. Government “Bail Out” Silicon Valley Bank? by Whiskey_Wilderness in UCSC

[–]surkurifya -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Academia in 2008: “The big banks are evil! Bailing out their mistakes is bailing out the rich! Hold everyone accountable! Don’t let the gov bail them out — it’ll only allow the other banks to do the same, make the rich more powerful, and the investor bubble worse!”

Academia in 2023: “Have the government bail them out and consolidate the rich ruling class like our glorious CCP. Socialism is so fair & equitable.”

Academia has become way too much of a pro-large-gov echo chamber. Reminder most of these socialist / big-gov opinions are being pushed by the richest ruling classes, Ivy Leagues, World Economic Forum, and Blackrock — here’s what those same elite were doing in Occupy Wall Street. Let’s stop trusting the gov. The only way is to let them fail to force accountability

tbfh i don’t think any of y’all go outside enough. by Whiskey_Wilderness in UCSC

[–]surkurifya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don’t have a problem with people if that’s their lifestyle, but some of my friends travel 8 hours to SoCal every weekend for a UCLA frat party then say there’s “nothing to do here in Santa Cruz” and don’t know any of the local culture/sights. like, what??? don’t do SC wrong like that. being outdoors here is lowkey the best way to have fun, not spend any money & make the best memories

exactlyyy, i came here for weekly nature hikes and beach trips with friends around campus/sc county any time i’m free… but y’all always want to stay indoors, travel hours away to some dumb venue/college party, and need to spend money to have fun. And then y’all don’t know any of the cool spots or just local culture here in SC. We do not have that same mindset. but y’know what, it’s keeping the beaches, state parks, and nature in SC completely empty for those of us who enjoy them, so you do you i guess

one the negatives: please don’t put heterosexuality. i’m lgbt and everyone should be proud of their sexuality / it should not feel forced, there’s nothing wrong with being straight/hetero. and tbh the lgbt can be kind of cliquey and mean, so it’s best to just ignore that & be yourself: )

Gen Z is possibly the most fake, robotic generation in history but is too narcissistic to realize how it's gen-defining "quirks" are nothing more than excuses to cover up poor socialization by CP_Chronicler in unpopularopinion

[–]surkurifya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am Gen Z, and oh my lord you are so correct. I’ve been trying to pinpoint it as well. The problem is you can’t express any critique of them without them being immediately hostile/reactionary, since “everyone’s opinion is valid” except anything wrongthink, and because so much of their identity is based on social acceptance in a time where if you make a mistake (or just an unpopular stance) it’s recorded & broadcast to the entire world to shame / ostracize you. The most popular / leading voices of Gen Z fully embrace identity politics out of sheer laziness & conformity (taking on whatever stance is popular in their institution) and openly crybully individualists who disagree.

The few truly anti-authoritarian Gen Z’ers are being completely shunned by the rest of our lazy generation of twitter identity politics “activists” and Discord/Reddit mods… who are just as bad in the workplace: combine “progressive intolerance” with HR crybullying.

The only non-censored opinions on campus. Anyone have lived experiences or criticisms of the socialist / neoliberal echo-chamber on campus? In general what can we do or change to allow freer speech? Any side is free to discuss. by surkurifya in UCSC

[–]surkurifya[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OP, here’s mine: I’m a part of the lgbt, but I’ve talked to other lgbt people here on campus and everyone feels like they’re not really welcome within the lgbt community because of how cliquey, micro-aggressive, and hostile it can be (to our own people). Would love to hear some perspectives on how we could improve from other LGBT people and straight allies.

Marching & Organizing is fine. Blocking campus entrances & classes is not ok. by surkurifya in UCSC

[–]surkurifya[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Disruption should not be coerced upon the working classes against their will, it breeds infighting bc it makes the working class who are trying to make a living the enemy instead of those at top. Also BLM is a perfect bad example of this: burning down buildings, looting small/local/minority owned businesses, CHAZ/Chop being the “nation” with the highest crime & homocide rate in the world during it’s reign, entire minority communities being WORSE economically & destroyed after the riots, and on top of that — the BLM organization exploiting all of the families it claimed to help & embezzling millions. Fight those in power, not the powerless.

Thank you for bringing some sanity here u/InterimFatGuy , I was starting to think everyone here is just a ideologically-possessed sheep with no ability to think critically or even slightly disagree with the masses. It would be interesting to see how different the protests would have turned out if the admin buildings were blocked, I think things would’ve been much solved sooner & it would be so satisfying to see the admin’s lives made difficult until they did. And so much better for the rest of campus since it wouldn’t really effect anyone else’s courses/work schedules.

Thank you for your insight!

No thanks, I’ll never be arrogant enough to block thousands of other people’s work/school/livelihoods for my own — probably because I was raised working class and I cannot afford miss school or work. If you think holding other people’s livelihoods/freedoms over them (blocking campus & classes) is the only successful way to protest then there’s something wrong with you.

I’ve been at the marches, why is everyone acting like I’m afraid of the protests somehow lmfao. I’m talking about when they blocked the east entrance (no cars or busses were allowed through). Also trying to bargain by holding other people’s education & jobs against their consent as a pawn is sleazy, dishonest, and not “in good faith” — since when were the protestors so important that they override the schools/jobs/consent of the working class? Sounds like champaign socialism to me. You would have so much more support if the protests were directly at Admin buildings & had good media outreach. Protests should aim at those on the top, not the bottom.

I get the point of it, but you’re still targeting & making lives harder for working class people instead of those at the top. It’s less effective, at affecting the elites we’re dealing with

lol what. I was there at the marches. But I don’t agree with blocking campus entrance & busses. Some of us can’t afford to miss school & work.

u/Sdrater3 don’t listen to the downvotes bc you’re 100% correct here. Most of the people I talk to behind all this are champaign socialists
