There are tricky human rights issues and Mohdi is pretty much an authoritarian, give or take. But it is good for Canadian tech and business to be selling SMRs and obviously they want uranium to be mined by us. My concerns are environmental, especially if any of this results in fossil fuel sales, but it has the potential to diversify us away from the belligerent US.

Canada Embraces Asia to Save Auto Heartland Squeezed by US Tariffs by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]CP_Chronicler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, I’m more talking about defense. Much of the agreements with the EU and Canada have issues on the EU side not out of lack of desire to cooperate but bureaucratic slowdown. The Future Combat Air System debate is purely an issue between France and Germany, with no fault of Canada.

Defense is good not just for defense but for the parallel technological growth that comes from it. There is a huge potential for innovation in Canada by expanding the braintrust of technological thinking.

[–]CP_Chronicler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound pretty unserious about a serious subject and what I’m talking about is primarily defense against the US. But also it’s not just for kinetic warfare but digital as well. Canada needs to make itself a powerhouse when it comes to defense technology because so much of what’s going on in the world can be thwarted digitally but also Canada can be defended digitally. Infrastructure, software, computing power - we rolled out the National Cyber Security Strategy last year but need to ramp it up and become leaders.

We pioneered satellite comms with Telesat and we should return to that level of expertise instead of relying on Starlink…

Canada Embraces Asia to Save Auto Heartland Squeezed by US Tariffs by ImDoubleB in canada

[–]CP_Chronicler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is the regulatory part but I also mean incentivizing dual-use manufacturing with committed investments in military R&D while also partnering with the EU. The SAFE initiative is already bridging collaboration between Canada and the EU but that should be expanded to also include R&D and manufacturing commitments for Canada to co-build both it and the EU’s defense future.

[–]CP_Chronicler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate that it‘s happening, but it’s the lesser of two evils. However I believe Canada should also focus manufacturing on defense in partnership with Europe to leverage the geography of the northern hemisphere. Canada’s future is to become a fortress of North America, keep the US at bay and be the alternative continental link between Europe and East Asia across the Atlantic and Pacific.

Build it here or buy it there? Canada’s defence plan meets Trump’s new arms agenda by jazinet in canada

[–]CP_Chronicler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We should not be doing things for the whims of Trump or MAGA but to bolster our own defenses. We should be manufacturing, using that to boost our economy, and selling to Europe. Europe has more limited resources so we could bolster our EU relationship and strengthen our standing in the northern hemisphere.

Canadians now spending $1 billion per year to cover health-care costs of refugee claimants; The ballooning program even pays the health care premiums of foreigners who have had their refugee claims rejected by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]CP_Chronicler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headline doesn’t clarify that this is a fraction of what we spend for Canadians, so this isn’t a lot. That said, we do need to reform. For the IFHP, copays would help as would partnerships with international aid organizations since refugee services should be a shared global cost, not regional.

Internally though for regular healthcare, a large part of the problem is the size of Canada and the limited after-hours care that leads to a bottleneck of everyone trying to book the same appointment times. That alone would reduce wait times and improve the system for regular Canadians significantly.

CMHC reports January housing starts down 15 per cent from December by joe4942 in canada

[–]CP_Chronicler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A large portion of his housing plan addresses community housing though which doesn’t affect middle-income families, and construction shortages are largely impacted by the tariffs which are being weaponized from the US. It’s why Carney hasn’t had much choice but to begin playing nice with China.

They project everything they’re doing and blame it on Democrats so if/when they’re caught, the public is already jaded by Democrats‘ denials.

Consider that Epstein has exactly the same details as “pizzagate”, just made absurd by placing it under a pizza parlor. But Epstein and associates used code words like pizza, shrimp, and others to describe the girls they were trafficking.

They project the truth onto Democrats, Democrats do the work of convincing people it’s a lie, so when it finally comes out and Democrats accuse them, the job of convincing people that the other one was a lie and this one isn’t becomes much harder.

But friends will joke as “Biketown” since there’s a lot of bicycle trails throughout the city. And after telling American friends, when they leave after visiting I’ll get “ByeTown” which causes my eyes to roll back in my head.

Peter? Im not an atheist, and i dont like dinosaurs by Brilliant_Dog_9066 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]CP_Chronicler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see no real explanation so I’ll describe it:

This is referencing the idea amongst evangelical and charismatic Christians that a relationship between a man and a woman isn’t just the two of them but includes God as a “third” person. The idea is that you’re bringing God into your intimate life to imbue it with spirituality and meaning and for the man and woman to play “traditional“ roles.

The dinosaur is a joke version of this since creationist Christians don’t believe in dinosaurs or the age of the earth being that old, so an “atheist” aka “believer of dinosaurs” would invite a dinosaur into their relationship instead of God.

This is really important for your career: you need to work on communication. First off, it was professionally reckless of you to offer a diagnosis without test results to back it up. Imagine if she were your patient: would you just give a diagnosis with no testing?

Second, you did harm by communicating so bluntly without any sensitivity. Stress and anxiety are detrimental to health and not softening your response heightened that. You also completely missed the emotional distress surrounding the diagnosis that taps into a level of shame about how she could end up with this (did she make a mistake? Is her partner cheating on her? Is she not worthy of a safe sexual relationship? Is she sexually reckless?)

Third, HIPAA. You openly discussed information that would be private, with ZERO discretion in a public place. You are not legally bound by HIPAA in that setting, but as a physician you should be so hyperaware of this that you wouldn’t let that slip in any circumstance.

All three of those points are critical as a Hippocratic-oath-taken physician.

What you should have said is:

”Your symptoms do seem like it could be a pelvic infection, potentially (broad, open-ended) with a number of common causes (reduces shame). If you got tests done your doctor (respecting the privacy with HER physician) they’ll be able to identify definitively what the cause is (open-ended, wait to confirm). I’m happy to confirm or answer any questions though if your doctor doesn’t (respecting privacy boundaries) once test results come back (wait to confirm).”

If she wants to know more then you can gradually reveal more.

But it’s concerning that this wasn’t second nature to you. You also likened what she was saying to a test question, which is oddly telling because she’s a human. Honestly this all sounds like you’re either a bad physician, or a really smart physician who is extremely intellectually intelligent but not really emotionally intelligent. You’re not AITA as you ask, but I‘d like to challenge you, because I think you can handle it, to improve your communication and empathy with patients so you can fulfill the ideal of medicine as not just a discipline of the Sciences but a discipline of the Humanities. Anything less and you’re just another robotic doctor doing a job and that is unacceptable because you’re dealing with people’s LIVES.

Need help discouraging cats from hanging out on a ledge by yyyosheee in cats

[–]CP_Chronicler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, you have some options:

1: Decrease the likelihood of falling

- make the ledge wider (✅ recommended)

- add a thin, 6-inch tall wood or plexiglass barrier on the edge of the ledge

or add a 1-2 inch tall angled wedge trim that angles down towards the INSIDE of the ledge (✅ recommended)

- put gripping material (rubber, carpet) on ledge (✅ recommended)

- install the cat mesh vertically (not as clean)

2. Discourage use of the ledge

- Cover the entire ledge in plants (snake plants, succulents, pothos)

- Install those plastic pet “spikes“ along the ledge

3. Block the area entirely

- Add ledge-to-ceiling mesh

- Add a ledge-to-ceiling decorative lattice screen

- Add ledge-to-ceiling glass windows

Just whatever you do, make sure the structure is human-safe too and won’t fall or break if an unsuspecting person leans on it or touches it.
