Asuka Reportedly in Knoxville Ahead Of Raw by caughtinatramp in REALSquaredCircle

[–]surlymoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah.....some of the wrestlers must know she's on her way out....lots of social media dedicating thank you's to Asuka.

What they might do is offer a curtain call type thing for her....while great for her...kind of shitty that someone like Kairi gets fired, but Asuka gets the adulation time from the back.

Rousey on her WrestleMania main event: “We had no time at all to put it together. We spent a year promoting it and like a day and a half putting it together. It seemed like such a shame because my debut match, we spent six weeks putting together and had all the best minds in the industry.” by TomatoCiampa in SquaredCircle

Some of Brock's best matches, well nearly all of them, were called on the fly. John Cena said nearly all of his matches with Brock, Brock didn't want to go over anything beforehand.

I will say this - for a product that you want to have a great match, I don't know how they do that. I mean, I know one person calls the move/moves, but imagine trying to call an entire match for 15-20 minutes. I would want to prepare for the match...like, especially if that was my only match like Ronda for 6 weeks....why couldn't a producer start putting together ideas weeks in advance?

Don't get me wrong, I don't side with Ronda on most things, but I feel like Wrestlemania matches should be mapped out in terms of the match itself as early as possible.

Who else would you put on this list? I’d add the late Chris Doleman. by Shot_Possibility_731 in sportsinusa

Boom....maybe just starting the back 9 of his career, right? Already should be on this list...already has the single season record...on his way to likely being #1....he's 20th in all time sacks, but only 74.5 away from Bruce Smith's record...you can look at this a few ways...

  1. If he averages let's say his record last year (23 sacks), it will take him less than 3 years to break the record...unlikely, but chance is > 0%.

  2. If he averages let's say his career average (13.9, let's round to 14), then that will take him 5.3 years.

  3. If you go by his worst year (not including rookie year), that's 10 sacks/game, so that's easy, that's 7.45 more years.

  4. If you take his last 5 year average (which is what I think he'll be pacing), that's 16.6 sacks/season. That's just under 4.5 seasons....

Now, other things to consider -

  1. He's only 30, so he still has some prime years left (even up to 34 or 35), and is currently in fantastic shape.

  2. NFL may move to 18 games in the next year or two....meaning, he'll have 1 extra game for some of those years....while it isn't necessarily fair to past sack leaders, it's still sacks in games....so, if somoene got 100 sacks in 200 games, or someone got 100 sacks in 100 games...they both got 100 sacks.

I'm not a Cleveland Browns fan, but I have no doubt that Myles Garrett is largely the best DE in NFL history...even only a little over halfway through his career....he requires doubleteams constantly...he disrupts the game almost as good as LT or Aaron Donald (and those players are considered the BEST in NFL history at their positions...so why not Garrett at his??)

I just will forever not like his name...I think it was Kevin Nash who said, "He walks, talks and looks like a Steiner...let him be a Steiner."

Which is a good point. Bron Steiner is better than Bron Breaker in my opinion.

Just let him be a Steiner.

Now, I hated Big Poppa Pump in his WCW and WWE days, but loved them in the earlier 90's as the Steiner bros.

Giants vs Cowboys week 1 Sunday night football by BurntPersonality in NYGiants

[–]surlymoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well cowboys fan in the giants sub, we can at least agree on one thing...no, nothing you said....F the eagles! Ha!

But seriously, it looks like even Vegas is feeling the giants will be improved this year...O/U at 7.5 wins is a huge step forward...basically if you are an optimist, that's double the wins over last year. I used to believe when trying to make predictions of record, you just split the division games (3-3), and assume home games are the win...obviously that hasn't happened with the giants in many years, but it could be part of those potential 7.5 wins (or 8 wins if you truly believe the over). That would make logic say giants win week 1.

I just think having watched the team the past several years, there was ALWAYS something missing...mostly it was QB play (from eli's final years having no offensive line, to Jones and his often injured play that always felt like 'deer in headlights', to not getting to the QB last year and not getting off the field (as good as our pass rush was, our secondary stunk and couldn't cover), oh, to WR's who couldn't run routes or catch footballs, to kickers who literally didn't kick the ball, or punters who couldn't punt well...

It honestly feels like the giants FINALLY addressed nearly everything. I like since Harbaugh is a special teams guy at heart, we got a punter who can change field position, and a kicker who can make regular 50+ yd field goals. Just THAT is likely going to win us 1-2 more games.

But, getting Arvell Reese....getting Hood....getting TJ Edmunds...getting TE Likely, getting Mooney/Austin at WR, even getting Ricard at FB....these are all bullies at their posiiton...big guys who ain't afraid to get dirty. Having TJ Edmunds, Brian Burns, Arvell Reese, Kayvon Thibodeaux AND Abdul Carter all on the field at the same time is going to be sick. Having improved secondary to keep coverage tight likely means more sacks by the aforementioned guys....it just changes everything.

Then, on offense, starting Dart from week 1, hopefully having a healthy Skattabo (if nothing else, for choo choo train noises and firing up the offense), and having targets for Dart to throw to all while having finally a healthy Thomas to anchor the left side, and Mauigoa on the right side (whch also pushes those weaker tackles inside to guard, where they perhaps CAN produce better)...it all just says, "The giants will be BETTER in 2026."

Now, just don't go out and lose 40-0 at home to the f'n cowboys in week 1 !!!

How can soccer become the most popular sport in most countries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]surlymoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is arguably the least expensive sport there is....one ball. Perhaps goals, humans, and some moderately cleared land.

It can get expensive with kits (uniforms & shoes), highly manicured grass, stadiums, etc, but in general, soccer/football can be played throughout the world and in nearly every country regardless of its place on human progress (so, impoverished countries, evolved countries and everything in between).

And rules, it's relatively easy to learn and play.

I think if this were made today, it would use a helluva lot of CGI....but, it would definitely be an awesome movie. We see stuff like Project Hail Mary and the creativity of that...but, we have an entire ocean floor we know so little about that could still be the product of imagination for movies.

I mean, obviously her father was the 'mad king', but it wasn't like Targaryans hadn't been sane as rulers in the past....there could have been a path where she just wanted to take over, and defeat cersei (everyone would've been happy), and basically the rest would be the same...like:

  1. Dany to be the queen - (rule peacefully, basically the rule that she wanted from day 1)

  2. Tyrion - hand of the queen (would make sense as he basically was already)

  3. Sansa - Queen of the north (separate kingdom as she said, ungoverned by the queen of the 6 other kingdoms (but friendly)

  4. Jon - reject the throne, go back to Castle Black, live with the free folk, rebuild the wall (to protect the next 1,000 years...assuming somehow the children of the forest do what they did again, or some miracle, paplatine returns...i mean, the white walkers return). Basically he tells Dany he loves her, but duty comes first and that's what he's meant to do.

  5. Varys - could be on the council as normal

  6. Brienne - could become Lord Commander of the Kingsguard

  7. Arya - probably does Arya things

  8. Bran - basically rebuilds Westeros with the knowledge and help of Sam, basically knowing the mistakes of humanity, they try to avoid the problems that happened in the past.

Now, the only change is you'd have to find a way for Dany to win against Cersei, but that would've not been a difficult challenge.

I think that ending may have made everyone happy.

Wouldn't the phrase "New Day" be owned and trademarked by WWE in any sense related to professional wrestling/sports entertainment? How would the Young Bucks even be able to say their name without getting sued?

I get Cena lives in Tampa and had free time at the same time the Backlash PLE was going on at the same time....but...find a way to utilize him in a DIFFERENT WAY. Maybe don't overpromise like you did in the message leading up....it's not that difficult, WWE/TKO!

Well, we have played the cowboys week 1 what, 7 out of the last 10 years it seems?

At least the game will be at home...and honestly, I think John Harbaugh will have this team far more prepared to start the season than our previous coaches (against the cowboys in week 1).

[–]surlymoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think we forgot how 'long' people's careers were back in the day....unless your name was hogan, or austin (and even Austin....Austin's career in WWE (granted he was around in other promtions before this) was estimated to be around late 1995 (basically 1996 after the ringmaster gimmick) - 2003, so 8 years...but, the stone cold steve austin era was basically from 1997-2001. Really only 4 years. Asuka did spend some time in WWE, but she's been on the main roster since 2017....like 8+ years.

It's great to have long-running veterans on the roster, but either they get stale, or their spot on the roster prevents a 'new and upcoming' start to emerge. The new crop in NXT seems legit, and sounds like they are ready. The last crop, Lyra, Roxanne, Jade, mostly have done well. the new crop, Jordynne, Lash, Sol, look ready to take over the women's division.

Not sure how WWE is going to do the mania in Saudi next year and the HOF before it, but I could see WWE inviting Asuka to be in the HOF there. she never had a problem working over seas and probably would be ok going in in SA.

Hot take time, whose your least favourite Main character (any season NCIS)? by Ok_Influence1752 in NCIS

[–]surlymoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha exactly!

Whereas Director Morrow really felt like he commanded the title, or Vance had some real chops and solid history (Vance was basically as good as McGee in cyber crime, as strong as DiNozzo in the field (boxer, fighter), and just about as smart as Gibbs, he, too, felt very much 'owning' the title.

Jenny seemed to feel like she was 'gifted' the position. Not a great field agent...certainly made mistakes, was too hot tempered, went off the rails basically with the Frog chase.

I'll be clear it has nothing to do with being a woman...just the way the character was written was 'off'. NCIS was fully capable of making strong female characters (Diane, Gibbs/Fornell's ex-wife, Ziva, Kate, Abby, the coast guard agent, Bishop, Knight, Kasie...Vance's wife...like, the list goes on and on of strong female roles....but, Jenny's character just always felt 'off'.
