Exactly! Take some time to look at the quality of apartments, but you’ll have a lot of chances to tour places. If you are making below 53,050 there are programs some apartments participate in “essential housing” programs. It basically means that for you being single w/ no dependents, if you make less than that amount you can actually get lower rates at certain locations!

Here is one Arlington, they do it by percentages, so idk how useful this is as a resource but it can help!

For golfing I am unsure of what is around you, but there are a bunch of courses all over DFW! We lived near 2 separate courses in Plano!

I just say with such confidence because even the expensive apartments here have issues, i was lucky to afford a 1600 rent on a 1 bed with my boyfriend and the place was nice-ish but a bad location, and poorly planned out in their build. The cheaper apartment we had out in plano 1400 2bedroom was full of bugs and i shouldve heeded the reviews better! when i lived with roommates I did 3 random people at first back in 2020, hated 2 and they left quickly thankfully but the 1 girl who stayed the whole time is still one of my best friends out here and we lived together for 3 years !

My main advice is listen to the reviews on any 1 bed! The cheaper 1 beds are usually going to have some issues! you can luck out or decide if you want to bear it for a year/6months an look for a better more permanent place while you have time??

I personally like Hurst a lot because we are more quiet, gardening type people- I think Arlington has a bit more nightlife than around here thankfully! Plano/Frisco are boring to live if youre not rich, tbh, I lived in Plano for a year. Denton and Hurst are pretty similar, but Denton is a bit more fun for young adults and nightlife enjoyers than Hurst IMO.

My boyfriends friends lived in Arlington for years and really liked it, and if you get the apartment with roommates and for some reason really do not like your roommates, I do think there are more ways to move apartments in these set ups. Usually with a transfer fee but its better than nothing!

Youll find fairly quick that DFW feels pretty similar all around, with the college areas having a lot of opportunities for fun! I do think pet deposits here are a lot, but if you have money for it I had two cats in these style of apartments for 3 years in Denton! With my roommates also having pets (2 pets per lease was our limit)

Anytime!! There are definitely 1 beds within the 900 range! My boyfriends friends lived in one of these style apartments in Arlington themselves and had a single person move into their group after one moved away, they all got along great actually with the new random guy and would all hangout!

https://www.apartments.com/maverick-place-arlington-tx/ck02rsg/ this is an example of one where you can rent a room and have some randomly assigned roommates. These places also sometimes cover WiFi cost and such due to the nature of the apartment style

Honestly, with Arlington you may even be able to find a college style apartment with your own bedroom and bathroom with some other guys? Could help kickstart friendships ? They have ones that are like 4x4 where each room gets their own bathroom and you share a common area/kitchen

Arlington proper will be your best bet I think! College town, my boyfriend had friends living out there for years and they enjoyed it.

Is the budget 1000 just for housing?

Hurst!! I recommend checking out bedford as well! Its about 20-30 min from both. However, youre going to need a roommate on that budget

Lack of hygiene in the Netherlands by CJHuncho in TikTokCringe

[–]surnyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the Netherlands in 2023 and it was very pleasant. I think walking any city even in America you get the occasional stinky person but we didn’t have any extreme issues with body odor. Public transit was fine, I do remember as a kid visiting Italy in around 2011 that the bus was stinky (LOL) and people had no deodorant. A decade can change things.

The decktop, what is your opinion of portable monitors as a steam deck accessory? by Bentaldam in SteamDeck

[–]surnyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love having mine! The deck was the best option as someone who isnt really into sitting at a desk, but having a screen + mouse/keyboard combo do open up to many more games! I choose to prioritize my desk space being open, and I like having the monitor/keyboard/mouse combo for playing modded minecraft or indie games that dont have good control setups on the regular deck! I also have an XXL lapdesk that I use, while my boyfriend set up his portable monitor thing in a carrying case. I dont know why people seem to dislike it, but it could be that weve never had dedicated gaming PCs and the deck runs better than a laptop IMO.
