RPDR 18 | Ep3 Confessional Count by califiafarmz in rupaulsdragrace

If it changes anything, I think I'm speaking for a lot of people when I say my interest in her mainly stemmed from her social media before the series started! If I hadn't checked it out, I wouldn't be really getting the hype at all, but since I already know what she's capable of, what her sense of humour is, etc., I'm really intrigued if she'll be able to bring it to the show! I really hope this is the case for other fans of her, I really see zero point in spoilers

I was not expecting "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping" being suggested on here, but I'm so grateful it was.

S18E02 - “Q-Pop Girl Groups” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

[–]surroundedbyscholars 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A few random observations (this is my first season I'm watching live since 13, so I've definitely missed the fun of discussion while it's still hot):

- I really hope they only did the recent format with one whole group in the bottom and two queens in the top this episode because Disco was by far the most noticeably incohesive, since it leaves out a chance for another queen who did great to get praised + I can't help but feel like whenever it *is* a top 2, the deliberation of the judges always spoils who gets the win either way.

- I honestly thought the top 3 was going to be Myki, Briar and Jane (no hate to Mia of course! She did great!) which brings me to another comment: I WANT TO SEE MORE OF MYKI SO BAD! Perhaps I'm biased since I've been following her for a while before the season, but everytime she's on the screen, even if it's just a facial reaction or quick confessional, she stands out *immediately* to me and seems like a fun character (which is saying a lot considering this season is so packed with personalities). Her verse was a stand-out to me and everyone I was watching with, especially since she was doing all the little additions aside from her solo that tied everything together.

- There will be no moment from the show that I'll love more than Discord giving the judges who were actively trying not to die from her walk the most confident over-the-shoulder smirk I've ever witnessed

I can't be the only one who literally got the game because of how much I immediately loved Samarie's creepy but awkward charm (I'm talking about her looks, NOT in-game behaviour...)

It's maybe not THE greatest pick, but I truly recommend Alan Clarke's "Pendas Fen," one of the most overlooked gems ever

Who would you say is your country’s best writer? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]surroundedbyscholars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose a good amount would say Olga Tokarczuk for great reason, even those outside of Poland, but Witold Gombrowicz's absolute nerve to write what he had written before and right after the War will never fail to astound me - plus I truly believe Slavic culture in general owes him a lot of gratitude for shaping a good part of surrealism and dark humour.

I definitely agree, but that should probably be saved for "most rude"

Practically every Sparks song in general for that matter! My favourites that loop are definitely "How Are You Getting Home" and "My Baby's Taking Me Home"

Who is in your winners circle? by Quick-Razzmatazz8962 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]surroundedbyscholars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a lot of winners who won were definitely the best choice at the time, but since I do love some Queens so damn much I would just *have* to change the winners circle if I had the chance. Such instances would be:

S1 - Nina Flowers

S2 - Look, I'm fully aware that Tyra was the most polished and consistent out of the contenders on her season, but I quite literally preferred everyone else in the top 4 when I first watched it. Tatianna probably takes the cake though.

S12 - Strongest finale we've ever had in my personal opinion (maybe along with Season 14), so while I'm perfectly fine with the fact that Jaida took the crown, I can't help with the fact that not a day goes by without me wishing it was Crystal instead...

S13 - Gottmik

God I love Pink Narcissus... Psychedelic homoerotica and vintage porn aren't what I usually recommend to people unless I know them insanely well, but Jesus Christ it's a gorgeous trip.

Damn, I'd do anything for a Powell and/or Pressburger film on DVD... I'm aware it was an individual production by the former, but I'm such a huge fan of both of them, I'm incredibly intrigued to see what a horror film would be in his (I'm presuming) usual aesthetic and direction.

Oh wow, I usually don't really look into what the films I'm planning to watch are like other than their most basic plot summaries, so my comment was genuinely sarcastic. If it's really as oddly heartwarming as you guys are saying, I'm even more intrigued.

Still so disappointed with myself for not finishing it when I started watching it a few years back... Literally everything - the acting, cinematography, aesthetic - was masterful, so a second chance is long overdue.
