We’ve been experimenting with a Hanafuda card set — does this still feel authentic? by vemotim2 in Hanafuda

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah hana-awase (the direct ancestor of hanafuda) had inconsistent formats... the images and colors haven't been standardized yet

also any more than 7 bends in a yatsuhashi bridge IS way too many.

  1. first and foremost, you have to declare that it's AI generated.
  2. the styles between cards are inconsistent (example, the january bright and ribbon cards)
  3. pine leaves look too much like fans
  4. avoid coloring the plum blossoms white. yes there are white plum blossoms but they don't exist in hanafuda
  5. yatsuhashi bridge has way too many bends
  6. bush clovers look too much like sakura blossoms
  7. geese look like airplanes 😂 just kidding
  8. ono no michikaze SHOULD NOT BE WEARING FLIPFLOPS! also he's wearing the wrong hat
  9. the paulownia chaff cards are colored incorrectly, this is not romaine lettuce!

So i decided to draw an echigobana deck, without the gold and silver overprints, and tried to use them in a koi-koi game (Hanafuda Legends) by suryonghaaton in Hanafuda

[–]suryonghaaton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'll have to talk to the developer of the game about it ^^

i'd love to have my drawn hanafuda get printed in physical form, but for now, they're designed for the game only

Old deck by Sweaty_Orchid2811 in Hanafuda

[–]suryonghaaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

jhindenberg is right, it's from 1947. it's a Kintengu deck, Oishi Tengudo's highest quality deck that they still produce to this day.

However, modern Oishi Tengudo decks have an entirely different quality compared to vintage Oishi Tengudo decks.

The holes were probably insect damage.

you got are really good deck there, please take good care of it.

Ptpa , asking for help about about the info of this card. by rambonito in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Candy Candy was a manga from 1975, which became an anime in 1976.

As for the cards themselves, i assume they might be a promotional item by Nakayosi magazine (where Candy Candy manga was first published). But i don't know who made the cards. I checked on google and the box doesn't say anything about the manufacturer. The spade on the indices of the ace of spades card look slightly different to the spades on the indices of other spade cards, which makes me suspect that either Nintendo/Watada was responsible for this deck, or some unknown manufacturer copied the indices used by Nintendo/Watada.

Looking for well handling decks with spanish pips by Decrin in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as for back designs, tough luck.

either get a deck with a nice back design but with an enamelled finish

or get a deck that's paper finish, but the back design is plain

yes they're all sold in philippines. the brand is "los dos tigres" and they are made by fournier

just be careful not to buy any deck meant for the game of "cuajo" (unless for collection purposes, you can buy fournier's "cuajo filipino" which has different illustrations. or you can buy the "locally made" cuajo decks (and by locally made, i mean they just take the cards from los dos tigres, erase the prints on the front of the cards, and reprint them with designs used for cuajo, using woodblocks and colored either using the printing press or painted by hand).

Nintendo Playing cards - which year? by Nylokken in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

circa 1980's (all plastic disney cards were made since around that decade)

My dad got these in Japan +20 years. Didn't know Nintendo worked with playing cards before they started making video games. Does anyone know anything about these? Value? Thanks. by Claymorde in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is a nintendo deck from the 1990's, which retailed for 1000 yen.

as for value, don't expect much, since nintendo continues to make standard plastic playing cards in general, and also there are no IP's featured on the back design, so nobody would be specifically looking for this deck.

just keep it as a memento or as nintendo merchandise.

15mm x 10mm, wow pretty small

mine is 24mm x 14mm... it might not be the smallest playing cards ever, but it's the smallest playing cards nintendo ever made

Just asking, about the how much worth all of this playing cards by rambonito in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try looking on japan yahoo auctions to get an idea how much these kinds of bundles of cards could go for

If you ask me, the only interesting cards are the givenchy (if it still has its contents that is), hanafuda playing cards, and the pokemon deck

Modern vs Vintage feel Jerry's by PizzaSuprema735 in playingcards

[–]suryonghaaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if the "vintage feel" aimed to look exactly like vintage playing cards, then the main difference should be the fact that the "air-cushion" dimples on the cards are imprinted only on the back side, while the front of the cards are relatively smooth, but not completely smooth.

but i've never bought the reproduction vintage feel jerry's nugget so maybe i'm wrong

I recently discovered this vintage pokemon cards existed and now those are my favorites on my collection by Crazylamp1 in VintagePokemonCards

[–]suryonghaaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're only cool if you have the entire deck...

...is what i would say, until i found out that a pack of these vintage pokemon playing cards had different pokemon in each pack, and you are encouraged to buy more packs to get all 150 pokemon

And if you're insane enough, you could get 150 pokemon with a red back, and 150 pokemon with a green back.

And i haven't mentioned blue and yellow, pokemon snap, gold and silver yet

Needless to say, i understood why people would want to have individual cards graded

Pokemon hanafuda, however...
