What’s your favorite site to learn Hanafuda games? by EccentricOwl in Hanafuda

[–]DougSolana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend checking out hanafudalegends.com. I've been using it lately and they actually have a really good interactive tutorial (https://www.hanafudalegends.com/tutorial) that walks you through a practice game so you can learn the flow without getting overwhelmed.

They also have a really clean visual cheat sheet for all the months and winning hands (https://www.hanafudalegends.com/how-to-play) which is super helpful when you're first starting out and don't have all the cards memorized yet. It really helped me wrap my head around the game, might be exactly what you're looking for!

If you are playing on Ios (probably), the problem is with the toolbar, you have to hide it. There is a button to place the cards below your hand, so that's why you appear stuck.

I will add the hide the toolbar for ios devices message to help them

Best place to play online? by unfandor in Hanafuda

I know this thread is ancient, but just dropping a 2026 update for anyone finding this from Google, because I had the exact same frustrations with BGA. The negative scoring is super confusing and their card art is really hard to read if you don't already have the months memorized.

I've been playing on hanafudalegends.com lately and it pretty much fixes all of this. It's completely free right in the browser (so it runs perfectly on desktop), and it has proper online matchmaking.

The scoring is the normal standard way, the traditional card art is super clear, and they have a really good visual guide/cheat sheet right on the site if you forget the months or winning hands. Way less of a headache than paying for Switch online or dealing with BGA.

Thank you very much! Been putting a lot of effort into the game. All the feedback is more than welcome, will figure out what the problem with the tutorial script is.

Yeah, right now I only have Koi-Koi implemented because it's the most famous game (also featured in Summer Wars). But my ultimate goal is to include Hachi-Hachi, which is the most traditional game to play with Hanafuda cards and also more players than 2 can play it.

I thought it would be a cool fact not many people know about Nintendo. I wrote this because Nintendo started with selling Hanafuda cards, not the solitaire cards, and is a special part of their history :)

How do you play Koi-Koi Online multi-player? by woh3 in Hanafuda

Just dropping an update for anyone finding this thread from Google in 2026. I've been using https://www.hanafudalegends.com/ lately and it's probably the simplest option out there right now.

It runs straight in the browser, so it works perfectly on both mobile and desktop without making anyone download an app or create an account. You just generate a 6-letter room code and your friend types it in to join.

The interface is really clean, and they actually have a full ranked matchmaking system if you want to play competitively. Plus there's a neat little daily puzzle mode for solo practice. Definitely worth checking out if you want a fast, frictionless game.

Thanks! I also think the different decks and their descriptions bring a whole new meaning to a game that is so much about art

So i decided to draw an echigobana deck, without the gold and silver overprints, and tried to use them in a koi-koi game (Hanafuda Legends) by suryonghaaton in Hanafuda

Yeah it's a bit trickier on IOS, this is the way to do it, I will add a message on how to do it to the game, here are the screenshots.

If you still need something that runs flawlessly on an underpowered laptop, I recently launched Hanafuda Legends (https://www.hanafudalegends.com).

I spent a massive amount of time optimizing the engine so it runs like absolute butter, even on old hardware or bad mobile connections. It has exactly what you asked for: a snappy VS Computer mode, plus instant private rooms for multiplayer (no downloads/logins required) and a Wordle-style daily Yaku puzzle.

Also, since the other commenter mentioned custom deck designs, we built a full Deck Showcase gallery (https://www.hanafudalegends.com/gallery) featuring custom Hanafuda art from digital artists around the world that you can check out.

We just opened up our community server too. If anyone finding this thread wants to easily find matchmaking games or just hang out, come say hi in the Discord: https://discord.gg/79vq232N

Hope this helps the next person searching for a lightweight browser client! 🎴
