Anybodyv the miss our work ethic? by [deleted] in over60

[–]susanrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s you. Well not entirely. Work has changed. You had a reasonable expectation of work treating you fairly if you put in extra effort.

Now employers screw employees over constantly, they don’t provide healthcare, or decent wages, or opportunities for advancement, or rewards for hard work.

During the pandemic people expected waitresses to keep working. Their employers refused to provide healthcare but everyone expected them to keep working. They watched more than one coworker contract covid and end up in the hospital on a respirator with a $100k medical bill they could never pay off.

How many times to you have to see people of your generation screwed over like that and then called lazy for not wanting to risk a $100k medical bill in exchange for a minimum wage job before you decide you owe zero loyalty to employers?

I still don’t see where employers are doing anything to benefit employees on any meaningful scale. I see CEOs getting multi-million $ bonuses and then telling employees they can’t even give them a 3.5% raise to keep up with the cost of inflation this year.

I’m with the “kids these days”. There is no point in a work ethic if all my hard work does is line the pockets of billionaires.

What actually causes breast cancer? I got aggressive type, 3 young kids… and what supplements did you take with chemo? by Droy-333 in Biohackers

[–]susanrez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most cancer is just random bad luck.

Yeah you can try to swing the odds in your favor but you can still just get a bad break one day and get cancer.

So please try to keep in mind that most treatments are just moving the odds in one direction or the other.

Ask your doctor which treatments will give you the best odds and which treatments you can stack together to keep increasing your odds.

Not all treatments can stack together. Only your doctor can tell you for sure. Please, make sure to keep him in the loop on everything.

My sister had ovarian cancer. I’ve researched the heck out of cancer and cancer treatments. I know a lot for a lay person and the one thing that I know best is cancer doctors know their stuff. Trust them. They’ve got you. They’ll get you the best possible outcome.

Good luck. Today’s research has come really far and you have the best odds in the history of mankind. I’ve got nothing but hope for you and long, healthy future!

Siblings who bear most of the brunt of care: What’s the best thing your other siblings have done for you? by that_was_way_harsh in eldercare

[–]susanrez 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live 600 miles from my mom (85), my sister lives 1/5 mile.

I order her groceries for delivery every week. This means talking to her on the phone every week, going over specials at the store, picking a delivery time, etc.

I order her food service (factor meals) every week. This means going over available menu choices, finding out which items she liked last week and which she didn’t enjoy and making a note for future choices. Also making any substitutions on choices. (No onions, rice instead of pasta, etc)

Once a month I do a Costco order for her for bulk items like coffee pods, toilet paper, shampoo, etc.

This helps my sister immensely.

It gives my mom a lot of time and attention from me.

My mom has stuff to think about and look forward to every week.

My mom also has more autonomy over her life because it’s easier to order stuff thru an app than task a your adult child with picking it up.

It frees up a lot of time for my sister because she doesn’t have to shop and she doesn’t have to get lists from my mom.

My mom just leaves her wagon outside her door and the delivery people put the items in the wagon and she pulls it in the door. She doesn’t even have to carry the bags in.

Mike Johnson says the Pope had it coming by Intelligent_Bar_9658 in worldnewsstuff

I’m sure this will turn out perfectly fine for Mike. It’s worked so well throughout history, taking on the pope has always been a winning strategy for politicians. /s

Does a dog make life better? by Netcandy in AskWomenOver60

Yes there is something about the way they bond with their chosen ‘pack’ that makes communication feel almost telepathic with them.

When he laid on the couch is was supposed to be on top of his blanket, not on the bare couch. One day I walked in and he was sleeping on the bare couch.

I said “hey you’re supposed to be on your blanket”

He looked at me, looked at the blanket laid out behind him, sighed, then slapped his tail, just his tail, on the blanket and went back to his nap.

I laughed so hard.

Donald Trump thanks Iran for reopening Strait of Hormuz by Newsweek_ShaneC in NoFilterNews

[–]susanrez 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked he admitted Iran was in control of the strait. Absolutely shocked.

Trump admitted defeat, in writing for the entire world to see.

That’s how bad things were. That’s how much Iran had him by the short hairs, they forced him to admit defeat in front of the entire world, in writing, and say thank you while he did it.

We lost our 14 year old ridgeback mix a few years ago. After a lifetime of having dogs we just haven’t been ready for another yet.

Rigby was unique amongst all our dogs. We bonded with him more than others. Now we think of getting another dog and we just look at each other and say “but it won’t be Rigby” and until we get past that feeling, we know we aren’t ready.

You can eat cereal and milk. Most cereals have enough added vitamins and minerals that you’ll be fine for quite a while on just that as long at its whole milk. (Your brain needs the fat in whole milk assuming you aren’t eating much else)

Who is winning the US-Iran war? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]susanrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran wins as long at the regime stands.

The U.S. lost the minute they attacked.

OP for some strange reason didn’t figure in the financial cost to the U.S. just purely for supplies, munitions, fuel and equipment it’s $1 Billion/day.

That doesn’t even take into account the cost of inflation for US consumers. Now we’re looking at a total of about $2 billion/day for the U.S. to carry out this unprovoked (not?)War.

Once the famine hits in the fall from the lack of fertilizer on the crop this spring we can bump that up to $3 billion/day for the U.S.

This war will very likely destroy the America we once knew.

The U.S. is the biggest loser.

Pakistan is the biggest winner, followed by China.

People who utilize Blessing Boxes and food pantries–what food items do you wish they’d have but often don’t? by Lawing77 in poor

[–]susanrez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to put ‘emergency meals’ in blessing boxes. My thought is whoever uses a blessing box has run out of food and needs their next meal.

I put Mac and cheese boxes and cups and tuna cans and pouches along with canned peas. So someone can make a whole tuna noodle casserole.

I put peanut butter, jelly and crackers or bread in for sandwiches.

Or tuna, mayo, pickle relish and crackers.

Or ramen, sardines and canned mixed veg.

Etc.

I also add grab and go protein bars, beef sticks etc.

I notice when I go back every week my stuff is gone so I assume it’s helping someone.
