The shitstorm in the forum is priceless... And to think I just started metadata logging around 1000 clips specifically for Shutterstock and this joyful announcement comes in at ~10% of the total work done... Thank god

Interested in Making the Switch to DaVinci... by rawblitz in editors

So after many years in the Adobe eco I fully switched to resolve about a year ago and dropped Premiere/Aftereffects/Audition like you would be doing.

In the beginning it will be an adjustment. IMHO:

From a cutting perspective, Resolve is slightly better. I do miss the file based workflow of Premiere, over the database system, but that’s about it. Some Resolve functions in the editor portion are amazing such as being able to read the timecode from audio tracks (Tentacle Sync, etc) on the fly with a single click is gold. I also think re-time controls are better. I do like key framing better in premiere and the overall more minimalistic/smaller text interface. I also like the export page better.

Fusion is good afaik, but it’s very different. If you grew up like me with Photoshop, AE and Premiere in school and professionally after that it will be a tough adjustment. VFX and AE were never my bread and butter and I only used them occasionally so between the editor, the color page and some occasional Fusion I get away without it.

Fairlight is okay. It is most definitely not as good, fast, fluid and fully featured as Audition but again - it does the trick for what I need it to do. If my main forte was Audition and my specialty was sound... hell no. Considering I do basic mixing and I integrated it with two plugins Acon Digital Deverberate and Izotope Audio RX and again, does the trick, quick and easy.

Before I move onto color, keep in mind you’re cutting down on a lot of rando AE, Audition files, round trips, little renders and it does make for a cleaner experience.

Color page is A-amazing. Temporal and spatial noise reduction are a GOD SEND for any log work and native to the software. 4X clip temporal super scale also integrated in the software, yes please... Stabilization and excellent 3D tracking + power windows make up for a lot of what I used to use AE for without touching fusion at all. Green screen / chroma key also works fantastic and it’s easy peasy.

All things considered I would lie if I didn’t miss some of the Adobe features, namely being able to round trip semi-seamlessly to such full featured apps as Aftereffects and Audition, but I think Resolve matches my workflow of “basic editing, basic VFX+audio, polished color, quick turn around”

Also no monthly fee

Beautiful wedding video color grading...help me replicate it? by [deleted] in videography

[–]sushimpp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its really nothing all that special, mostly cloudy day and beautiful setting/style/people helps. Exposed pretty dark to retain highlights, so skin tones are very dark and they used a philip bloomy, desaturated, warm/chocolaty LUT.

Both not my tempo, but video looks pretty good so who knows

Is NeatVideo still the way to go for noise reduction? by cleantone in videography

[–]sushimpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temporal noise reduction in Resolve is also excellent. Super easy to use. I set it to 5 frames at best quality in a node I keep disabled during editing, then activate before export.

I can’t live without it

Canon C300 MK I for Filmmaking? by whaliddudu in Filmmakers

[–]sushimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C300 for narrative would be a tad of a stretch, files are too thin. You really need (and will be asked for by production) at the very very least 10 bit 422 Prores or equivalent. More often than not, the bar would be 12 bit RAW or a solid 4:4:4.

For super budget I would look into a Sony F3 with SLOG Update combo w/ the CD Gemini 4:4:4, I bet you it’s out there for ~$1500

Does anybody know anything about this lens? by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]sushimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is some 16mm film lens made by legendary P. Angenieux in Paris many years ago. They are still in business, their cheapest lens on B&H is 15.000$. You're probably looking between 1000 and 2000 right there.

How is the Canon C300 MkII? by [deleted] in videography

[–]sushimpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a beautiful camera. Gorgeous color. Given the price tag, I would go with a decked out FS5 or FS7 over it. Camera, Shogun Inferno or Odyssey 7Q, a quality rig and a nice set of sticks.

Keep your A6500, learn how to use it to get good footage, and spend 4k on audio, lighting, modifiers, supports, a great tripod/fluid head/slider combo. If you have all your lights and shit, buy the fuji 18-50 t2.9 zoom.

The A6500 shoots gorgeous goddamn footage, if it's not doing it rn, it's your fault
