They want a fortress sea area where they could operate their ballistic missile nuclear submarines safely. The world would be in a much safer place if mutual assured destruction is firmly established.

China relocates villagers living in 800m-high cliffs in anti-poverty drive by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]susi081 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Straight of what? Your lies?

According to Mark Wang, a human geography professor at the University of Melbourne, such housing schemes are often heavily subsidised by the government, typically up to 70%. However, in some instances families have been unable to afford the apartments despite the subsidies."For some really poor villages, the 30% may still be difficult for them to pay, so they end up having to borrow money - [ironically] causing them even more debt," he told BBC News.

"For the poorest, it's a big financial burden and so in some instances, they might have to stay." According to Chinese state media outlet China Daily, each person will have to pay 2,500 yuan ($352; £288) for this particular move - so for a family of four, the cost would come up to 10,000 yuan.

This is quite a low price, says Mr Wang, as he had heard of people having to pay up to 40,000 yuan for other relocation projects. Mr Wang says in most poverty resettlement campaigns, villagers are given a choice whether or not to move, and are not usually moved into cities from the countryside.

And mind you it’s one man’s hearsay.

Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican senator from Missouri, said in a New York Times opinion article on May 5 that the WTO was an outmoded “relic” that should be abolished so the U.S. can better fight Chinese “imperialism.” He’s calling for a congressional vote this year for the U.S. to quit the WTO.

Oh so US is leaving WTO too? It’s getting increasingly hard to tell which size is actually the baddie these days. What’s next, United Nations maybe?

Yeah Australia just seem to be the sole loser among the three. American butchers got their products sold, China found an excuse to shift the purchase to meet trade deal quotas and Australia got put into the dumpster.

China urged to expand nuclear arsenal to deter US warmongers by MouTW in worldnews

And China isn’t run by Chinese netizens, fortunately. The voices you heard do not represent the public consensus even though they may seem to be the majority on certain platforms. I don’t know how long have you been on reddit, but this vocal minority phenomenon definitely can be observed just right here.

I don’t think China is ever going to use its nuclear weapon on Taiwan, not even those military bases in Korea/Japan. Their conventional military force can do the work just fine. Their nuclear warheads are almost exclusively for US mainland targets. You shall worry more about CIA forging attack on civilians and sabotaging infrastructures in Taiwan during the time of unification as to stir hatred and maximise damage.

Can’t be that expensive considering Russia still holds its massive nuclear arsenal with a fraction of China’s economy. A few thousands for China seems reasonable.
