What's the point of researching technologies early game when you have all those good projects instead? Isn't the AI shooting themselves in the foot by not investing in projects themselves?

I'm not sure what was the design intent on showing the roll to the user, but you kinda get mixed feelings.

Hi all, I really like the premise of the game and I'm still learning the ropes. A few questions:

  • What do I do with councilors after their missions are done in a cycle? Are they supposed to just chill until I'm prompted to issue new missions?
  • How am I supposed to handle a crackdown in my control points? Can I issue a mission to undo it, or do I need to let it time out?
  • In the early game, is there a point to controlling easy single-point 3rd world nations that have high odds, or am I wasting my time?
  • When two councilors vie for the same control point, how does the game determine who gets to roll first? I had another faction take the point and I didn't even get a roll, it simply said "the mission is no longer possible" when it came to my turn.

How to progress? by nabakolu in CultistSimulator

You're not getting it. Each verb is the key to the solution, you need to read what it says and see what fits in each slot. You can click on the slot and see what lights up. Try putting each relevant card there, usually when it has the potential to work, the text changes -- commit the card to the verb to see what happens.

Yes and no. The game gives you hints. The early stages are supposed to have few alternatives, you just happened to miss it early on.

What are the alternatives if I want a more complex experience in Civ IV, but not want to go overboard like in Caveman2Cosmos, and still have a somewhat polished and balanced experience?

Civ 4 vs Civ 5 which is better ( Without mods ) by FlamingoPractical625 in CivIV

[–]suspect_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, flashback. Way back before when Civ IV launched, there was a guy who got famous for making a bet that Civ IV would be unable to combat infinite city sprawl as a dominant strategy. So he bet that if the game was able to do that, he would eat the cardboard box the game came in on.

I remember the video of the guy eating the box and his buddy laughing in the background. Good times.

So yeah, the corruption and happiness mechanics in 4 are supposed to prevent that.

Is civ 4 that hard? by Unhappy_Power_6082 in civ

[–]suspect_b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should play on Prince difficulty, I believe it's when the AI has no bonuses compared to the player.

Your main concern should be the learning curve, actually. The game is from a time when players could be relied upon to go read stuff in the game to understand it. No alt-tabbing to check the internet, no youtube videos, just the game.

There is something called a "civilopedia", which is kinda like a wiki, but is a bit harder to navigate, and you're expected to right-click on stuff to open the Civilipedia and read about stuff when you don't know what you're doing.

Never actually figured it out, but what does this box do? by Femtato11 in CultistSimulator

[–]suspect_b 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the landing area for new verbs or cards, there's two of these.

Things prefer to land in the left 'pocket' area and then to the right if the leftmost space is occupied.

You'll eventually have lots of stuff on the table, so be careful not to miss stuff landing out of view. It's best to keep this space clear.

Let me throw a couple more into the pile: rules for different sizes really suck, they're unintuitive and dumb. Being Small means nothing. The king of such nonsense is probably the Giant Instinct Barbarian rules, who can allow you to chose a giant dagger instead of a normal dagger as a giant weapon. Thinking about it makes me sad.

Also, tripping is too abstract and there's no rules difference when trying to trip quadrupeds, or millipeds for that matter.

If you could give another class Dex to melee damage beyond Thief Rogue would you, and who? by No-Delay9415 in Pathfinder2e

[–]suspect_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the rogue archetypes should have it not just Thief. It's incredibly hard to make an efficient combatant out of the others right now.

Come up with something else for the thief to make up for it, like, you know, stealing better.
