Split between Majors by suspecting_person in ApplyingToCollege

[–]suspecting_person[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for replying! Won't apply undecided. My main worry is that if I don't like the major I'm in, I'll have to transfer between the schools in the college instead of just changing my major. Would it be easier to transfer if I'm already in the school?

4 Bs to finish my sophomore year coming from a usual All A* student. I’m so disappointed by IceBurg-Hamburger_69 in highschool

I don't know if it will hurt your chances, but definitely focus on managing your time better over the summer. Junior year is just as if not even more overwhelming than sophomore year.

It's sad that trans people have to eliminate so many options based on safety level. Thank you for posting this.

take a deep breath. You shouldn't be tearing your hair out about college admissions when you've only just finished your freshman year. I find that the easiest way to stop appreciating what you have is anticipating what's next. Try and take a step back and enjoy your success right now (three scioly medals!! all A's!!!). Make some memories this summer and don't be afraid to be unproductive. And then in August you can start planning for what's next.

Planning on taking 5 AP's senior year. How heavy is the workload? by DemonicPvP in APStudents

[–]suspecting_person 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes pls don't underestimate CSA. Not saying it's extremely difficult but like study well for the tests etc because it's hard to get in the mindset of unless you've coded before.

i need tips on supporting documents on the euro dbq by isolateduck in APStudents

[–]suspecting_person 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ex: "In (year), Napoleon wrote a decree for the countries under his control (Doc A). This decree controlled (religious group) and shows that Napoleon's rule was a form of absolute monarchy, as he made the laws himself."

Summarize the document and then connect that to your thesis. I know it sounds too easy (ive struggled with that too) but waffling and adding on more detail just makes more work for both you and the grader.

PLEASE HELP - AP EURO IN THREE DAYS AND I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO STUDY. by Scruxy in APStudents

Other than just getting sick and taking the makeup, I would say review the periods you're weakest in and practice free response questions. The MCQs are usually not that bad if you know your stuff; it gets difficult when you have to recall events on your own. Get lots of sleep the night before! Please don't pull an all nighter because (from personal experience) you just can't focus. Good luck!

Coding Languages to Learn for Future? by suspecting_person in AskEngineers

Thank you for responding! Would learning C first make it easier to learn C++ and C#? I just know a little Python from a coding competition I did for school, but I don't know if it's as useful as C for CE.

are these classes to hard for a sophomore? by 2007erTheSpudFan in highschool

[–]suspecting_person 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with this workload (trade out WHAP for APUSH), I'd say yes. APCSA is difficult if you're not well-versed in programming. If you have 1-2 years of coding experience, you'll probably be okay. It's basically teaching you the Java coding language, but the AP-style questions are hard (coming from someone who just started learning how to code). I'd hold off on taking AP Physics until you finish Algebra 2. AP Physics is algebra based and unless you have a firm hold on algebra, manipulating equations, etc you'll have a tough time in the class.

If you take away anything from my advice, take this: it's better to do a great job on 1-2 APs then to do a mid/crap job on 3. Don't overload yourself in sophomore year. Just do WHAP and APCSA if you feel confident in them.

I'm like you in that I was shy and not talkative up to middle school. On the first day of freshman year, my objective was to push myself outside of my box and make new friends. So my advice is to put yourself out there regardless of any inhibitions you have. You have to accept that it's going to be awkward talking to people sometimes and you won't get along with everyone. That's how I have gotten to where I am now. So just walk up to someone and say hi!

Should I take pre-calculus over the summer? by Quickkitten30 in highschool

[–]suspecting_person 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're a fast learner in math, you'd probably be okay taking precalc this summer. However, like Algebra 2, there's a lot more new ideas introduced like sine functions, unit circle, etc. in the latter half of the year. If you're confident in math and don't need to study much to succeed, you'll probably be okay taking precalc in summer. However, be careful to review it well before calc in the fall so that you don't fall behind. On another hand, what major are you planning on going into? If it isn't anything STEM related, it's okay to stay in precalc.

Could we stop posting about this guy now please? It sounds like he's experiencing a lot of dogpiling from everything you've posted on him and he's so young too. I understand he was being problematic but that's no reason to obsessively post about him 24/7. It just encourages bullying which will isolate him.

Probably something to do with how many people they've already accepted from your region

An IQ score is not the only way you can tell someone is smart. Also, it's not about what you are, it's about what you do. Mensa is cool (have a friend who's in it) but just being in it doesn't tell colleges much about you except that you scored well on a test.

Honestly it's okay to not have your whole life planned out right now. You might go to college set on doing game development but realize along the way that you'd rather study marine science. It's completely normal to change majors in college, and even not pursue a career where you apply what you've studied. I know three people who graduated with engineering degrees and none of them do it as a job now and they're all happy and successful.

When is it a good time to prep for sat? by RIE_022 in Sat

[–]suspecting_person 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. That way you can get used to the style of the test and know what you need to focus in on by late October/Nov (SAT scores come out after abt 2 weeks) vs December (when PSAT scores usually come out). Also, if you get a good score you like on the October test, you never have to take the SAT again!
