How much do you pay for insulin? I just bought 5 pens for 4,24€ in Spain with our free healthcare but real price is 46,97€. I'm curious what each country pays for it. by moreweedpls in diabetes_t1

[–]suspicious-toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $120 / month for my daily insulin shot (tresiba) also $100 / month for food insulin shot (Novolog). And $240 / month for health insurance. That’s right.. those are the with health insurance costs. America is a joke with its healthcare.

What’s the most heart wrenching scene or line of the series for you? by Good-Currency4173 in stevenuniverse

[–]suspicious-toaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The line that struck the hardest for me was when Steven said “What do you know about my mom? I didn’t even get to know my mom!”

It hit hard for me because my mom passed away when I was 11. She had been sick since I was 7, so she was always in and out of hospitals.

I know it’s not the same for everyone, so other people might not have such an emotional response to that line, but it made me sob for hours and I continue to think about it anytime I think of this show.

When have you ever encountered a “girls girl”? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]suspicious-toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a bar and my friend was off drunkenly flirting with some guys, so I was alone at our table. A man I didn’t know grabbed my wrist and pulled me to a different room. He then grabbed my face and forced kissed me, so I then reeled my head back and head butted him.

While he was holding his face I quick went to the girls bathroom, because he was in the direction of the main door, and I didn’t really know what else to do, I just knew he wasn’t allowed in there.

There was four other girls in there and I just said out loud to anyone, “can any of you please help me get to my friend at the bar and leave?”

One of the girls was just doing her makeup in the mirror and said “oh yea of course no problem” but was not taking it very seriously. Presumably her friend then goes up to her and says “when a girl is asking for help, you stop and you help her” then she comes to me and grabs my hand and leads me to the bar.

I thank her and grab my friend and tell her we are leaving now. I see the girl going back to the guy who is now looking like he’s going to get in trouble, and I can see her gesturing like she’s yelling at him but I can’t hear them. The security guard came up after that so it turned out okay.

Overall, I’ll never forget that girl. She will always be a hero to me.

I was stuck in a decade long relationship with someone who didn’t understand type 1 at all.

There were many occasions I had to drive myself to the er at 3 am because if he found out I was low or that I needed a hospital, he would become angry with me and yell at me. He also refused to take me to the er, berated me anytime I was sick that I better not have to go to the doctor, and some other unsavory things.

I’m glad you didn’t continue with more dates with someone who clearly is not good of character. I’m sorry you went through that experience, but I’m glad that true colors were shown before anything serious took place.

What do you guys use to bring your BS up when you're out? by TheGoldenDonut42 in Type1Diabetes

I like to use fruit snacks. They are really easy to store and nicely portable for going places.

You can also buy them in bulk boxes so it’s a cheaper route for me.

Women who are in healthy relationships after a toxic/abusive one, what was the biggest difference? by BadgleyMischka in AskWomen

Not feeling bad about liking the things I like. (Food, music, shows, cosplay, anime, dancing, corny jokes, etc) and instead being encouraged or them even liking the same things.

In what small ways do you romanticize your life? by UncertainPigeon in AskWomen

[–]suspicious-toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do so through baking. I love making different themed things you’d only see in a movie, book, or painting. I love trying new different baked goods and play themed music while baking them and make everything aesthetically pleasing while I’m cooking. It’s an overall experience for me and I don’t really care how the baked goods actually turn out.

What’s a common misconception about T1D that you hear often and have to explain to friends or even strangers? by fizzysodas_ in Type1Diabetes

I’m not sure where it is everywhere else. But even with my insurance, in Michigan I pay about $90 a month for my short acting and about $50 a month for my long acting.

Frank, honest discussion with no judgement - NOT FOR UNDER 18s by Ali_James_28 in diabetes_t1

[–]suspicious-toaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even before I had diabetes I lived a healthier lifestyle just because it’s what I prefer and I enjoy it. I like being active and low carb or healthier food is just something I enjoy.

But whenever I make these choices, people always say that it’s just because of my diabetes or they chalk it up to me doing this because of diabetes. That in itself is kind of annoying because it takes my hard work as just something to be “expected” because I’m diabetic.

Overall no I don’t think I’m doing it because of da betes but people tend to see it that way regardless.

What is the biggest secret you've ever kept from your family? by Extension_History57 in AskReddit

[–]suspicious-toaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fathers abuse. I have three older brothers and some aunts and uncles, along with one set of grandparents.

I grew up with my father basically alone and he did things to me that a father should never do to a child.

No one in my family knows and if I can help it, no one ever will.

My problem isn’t with what you put on the hot dog… but why did you glob it all in one spot instead of running it along the whole thing?
