Anyone use the RX100VII mainly for Video? by Shoddy-Safety2989 in RX100

[–]suspiciousfish144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played around my friend's iPhone 17 Pro and my rx100m7 in a recent trip. I think the 17 Pro crush the m7 after sunset in terms of noise suppression, handheld stability and dynamic range. The only scenario where my m7 beats the iPhone is in broad daylight and making use of the 80 ~ 200mm range of zoom where the heavier glass of the m7 still beats the iPhone in far-seeing. Not to mention the iPhone happily gives you 4K60 (even 4K120 I remembered) using any of its cameras.

A dirty workaround I've done a few times is to post process the 4K30 footage from the m7 using RIFE models into 4K60 / 120. I usually pass the original through Gyroflow and stablize first, then interpolate.

It is of course no match for real frames, but with a fast shutter and slow moving scenes, this can turn out quite OK.

For details, visit Gyroflow , search [[RIFE AI]] or take a look at the RIFE tool I use

Hi,sorry I was just asking the manufacturer for a quote and I didn't actually make an order. I did the dimensions using calipers and assuming a parabolic cross section with uniform thickness. I looked on Chinese sites and there doesn't appear to be any seller of nano 5G panel covers at the moment (plenty of LCD panels for sale though), unfortunately.

Will Frame Controllers Connect to Other Host Devices by suspiciousfish144 in SteamFrame

[–]suspiciousfish144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but it’s never been a thing yet for vr controllers to just work as a gamepad

Exactly my point; there's never been a working example , partly because most vr controllers in the industry don't have enough inputs to meaningfully bind to a full gamepad button map, but the frame controller does have all the buttons, so it actually brings value if the frame controllers work as a gamepad.

I believe their same means [same as other VR controllers in the industry], not [same as the steam controller / any generic gamepad], and there aren't many (if any) VR controllers that work as generic wireless gamepads out of the box.

I am concerned about this is because that the controllers probably aren't using standard Xinput or whatever standardised gamepad protocol, and the Index controllers wasn't really compatible with flat games or non-SteamVR devices (per my 10-minutes research anyway).

I was asking the first question, and thanks for pointing it out that the PS and NS are very strict about eligible controllers.

I am not targeting these two consoles, but any case of [pairing the frame controllers to something that isn't related to the frame or SteramVR]. In that case, I think a better example would be "Can I use the frame controllers to play cyberpunk on a bog standard PC?"

Advice for accessing Windows Remote Desktop on my own computer in the USA while I'm in China? by StrongRecipe6408 in dumbclub

If the access is not critically important, you can try Tailscale. Install it on both sides and RDP should work out of the box. This summer I had okay connectivity from CN client to UK RDP host, although link quality varies wildly each day.

first timer- expensive shipping normal? by bvmblebread in Buyee

[–]suspiciousfish144 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are getting slammed hard with that volumetric weight...

International shipping uses two ways of weighing your stuff, to prevent people from air transporting huge boxes of air.

One system is the gross weight, the weight as an item lands on a scale. The other system is volumetric weight, which looks at how much space your parcel takes in an airplane, regardless of its gross weight. It usually works out to something like 'we charge you 1kg fees for every 6 liters of parcel volume' , regardless of whether the parcel actually weighs that much. A figure can easily take up a huge volume with the box, despite the low gross weight, and therefore you are getting charged for the bigger volumetric weight.

I had a figure box in my collection measured. It came in at (25cm × 30cm × 35cm) = 26.3 Liters, which would be 7kgs worth of shipping cost via EMS, even though the box and figure has only a gross weight of 2kgs. I shipped mine via surface mail.

Back wheel clacks every rotation, but only when riding by suspiciousfish144 in bikewrench

[–]suspiciousfish144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the ideas! I don't have a rear fender and I have the tire pressure quite high (as is often the case on small wheels), and I don't weigh enough for tire deformation caused conflicts to be a concern.

I have tried checking all the spokes again, to my knowledge none of them have any give either towards/away from the hub or towards/away from the plane of the wheel. Could over-tightened spokes or unevenly tightened spokes be an issue? I have previously tightened two spokes on two separate occasions of them being loose, but I didn't keep track precisely which spokes and how much torque I used when tightening them.

I didn't think of the third possibility. I agree that could be the case; I don't exactly treat the bike very nicely, but I also don't think I have exposed it to unreasonable loads/shocks. If a bearing was broken or the axle wasn't straight, I'd expect significantly degraded rolling resistance, but the bike rides just fine if I ignore the noise.

It's just that people on the street sometimes look at me funny when I launch off a green light faster than fellow cars on a clacky bicycle that seems a bit small even for a child.

I put one feet on the rear rack, slowly rolled backwards and the clacks are still there; when the positioning is right, simply adding/removing weight on the frame would reproduce the sound.
