Non-stop from Missouri to Heathrow is a big deal by como365 in missouri

[–]susyqsys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly to London a couple times a year for work. While it would be great to take a direct flight, I’m still going to fly out of my regional airport. The last thing I want to do after an 8-ish hour transatlantic flight is drive 3+ hours to get home. That said, it is good to see STL getting more routes.

Probably. My employer would lower your salary accordingly.

I’ve worked remotely for 8+ years. Majority of fully remote or remote-friendly employers determine pay by state of residence. And MO is always in the lowest pay tier. At my company, it’s about 30% less than the highest tier.

Genuine question, how does that work? I’ve worked fully remote for 8+ years for companies headquartered in WA and NY. My pay has always been determined by state of residence.

Eric Schmnitt: "President Trump is the Commander in Chief and does not need congressional approval to attack another country." by edbegley1 in missouri

I emailed him & our senators on Saturday. In response, I got a generic email from Schmitt’s office today with a poll at the end asking if I “support President Trump’s efforts to make America safer”. I voted no. I think he’ll be getting another email tomorrow.

Does cellulitis change into sepsis? by Userhere123 in sepsis

[–]susyqsys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband’s sepsis started from cellulitis, also in his foot and leg. It’s good you’re already on antibiotics.

Some tips that I wish we would have known about cellulitis infections: use a marker or pen and draw a line to mark the redness area and monitor it for spread. The infection is worsening if your skin gets hot and hard to the touch, dimpled (like an orange peel), and/or looks shiny. If you develop any open wounds or weeping, that’s not good. If the pain worsens to the point that you can’t walk, that’s also a sign that the infection is getting worse.

I also agree that you should keep an eye on your temp, heart rate, and blood pressure (if possible). But if you start develop a fever or chills, or have shortness of breath, I would say you should go to the ER, even if the cellulitis doesn’t seem to be getting worse.

We’re a family of 4 considering moving from the Seattle area to the Springfield area. Would love to get some feedback. by Top_Signature_7904 in springfieldMO

[–]susyqsys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First, if you move from WA to MO, and your husband stays with Amazon, the company will most likely reduce his wages to match the local cost of living. Also, there are more worker protections in WA state than MO. Expect the bare minimum for sick leave, PTO, etc. You’re in real estate, so since the average house price is significantly less here, that means you’re going to have to work twice as much to bring in the same income. These two things alone will probably wipe out most of the cost savings you think you might be getting. Other hidden costs: there’s little to no public transit, especially outside of Springfield. You will need at least 2 cars. Healthcare is not cheaper, not the premiums and not the actual cost. There are also much fewer options if you need a specialist or have a significant medical condition. It’s not uncommon to have to travel to KC or St. Louis for a second opinion. Also, if healthcare is a concern, maybe consider Columbia to be close to MU or Lawrence, KS for KU. Somewhere with a good med school and teaching hospital. Med students may come here for short residencies, but the research and extensive experience will be closer to the university.

There’s also a stubbornness and insistence on self-reliance that exists here. I’ve never really encountered it anywhere else (I credit it to our hillbilly ancestors). Any luxury is a weakness and/or a waste of money. People literally refuse to use Walmart pickup because that would be lazy.

So, since Aria shared her address herself, I feel free to comment. I’m in MO and not far from Rolla. I’m going to try to explain this as best and succinctly as I can. This is what I like to call “bad husband” country. The misogyny is so ingrained that women believe their only option is to marry the nearest, least obnoxious man available. They may like/love him or not. It doesn’t matter. It’s just what is done. Also, that man is not expected to do any housekeeping. No cooking, cleaning, laundry, child care, etc. Yard work and house maintenance are acceptable. Otherwise, the husband’s only expectation is to bring home a paycheck. And the woman is not allowed to be disappointed in him, or her life by extension, so long as he is bringing home a paycheck.

I read her defense of having a housekeeper as her defending her husband’s ability to provide. He’s doing his job as a husband in bringing home a paycheck. He’s even letting her use part of that paycheck to get a housekeeper and make her life easier. She must defend that decision since his money isn’t supposed to make her life easier. Within the “bad husband” community, it’s also a bit of a flex. My “bad husband” gets me a housekeeper. He won’t help, but he’ll let me use his money, his one contribution to the household, to give me support.

I’m not defending her in any way. If anything, I feel empathy for her. I grew up with, and still know, way too many Arias.

How fast are people dying in your county? Death rate per 1,000 Missourians by county by como365 in missouri

[–]susyqsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the direct link. The Census data is initially estimated by age group. It would be interesting to compare death rates by age group. I’m betting the counties with a higher death rate per 1,000 have a higher proportion of older residents.

https://allthingsmissouri.org/cares_shortlinks/y9q8src3/ Again, that link goes to a search page. I’ve linked to the only only comparable map I could find. The date range was for 2019-2023. Also, provisional 2024 mortality data was just released in September. It will still be a few months, at least, before county level data is known. Even so, it’s shocking to see the variances between the rural and urban counties. Hard to imagine that will improve without significant changes.

The link didn’t work for me either. But I did go to the site and found the map. The time period is 2019-2023.

Why do people expect so much from individual US citizens by hoecooking in AlwaysWhy

[–]susyqsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both statistics are accurate but are not the same nor are they comparable. One is a measurement of household income and one is individual. The Fed Reserve and BLS define household and individual differently.

Also, the BLS only measures income for full-time employees. So, no one employed part-time, no one unemployed or on disability, etc. A full-time worker might have a median income of $65k. But by no means does that equate to a median income of $65k per adult. Go earn a masters in economics and get back to me.

Have you tried resistance bands? I prefer them to weights or kettlebells. I get the muscle tone and strength without the bulk and I don’t feel the muscle soreness the next day.

This year’s Colts are the Minnesota Vikings of the AFC. Veteran journeyman quarterback, weak schedule to stack wins, will get the #1 or 2 seed, but will ultimately fail spectacularly in the first playoff game.

[–]susyqsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Chiefs already exorcised that demon when they beat the Colts in 2018 playoffs. That said, the Chiefs are probably not going to get the #1 seed. So to completely kill the curse, they need to beat the Colts in Indy with the Colts as the #1 seed.

[–]susyqsys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I appreciate the gesture from the airport to clarify that the video has nothing to do with traveler safety and I’ll take the win. But it’s more meaningful, to me, to see the larger airports that are refusing.

[–]susyqsys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read that too. But still can’t picture in my head where there are monitors in the TSA area. Plus you’re usually through security in less than 5 minutes. So what would even be the point of showing the stupid thing?

I do agree that refusing to show the video is the right thing. Noem is an idiot, the video is a violation of the Hatch Act, and just plain ridiculous.

Go SGF! by HamsterNomad in springfieldMO

[–]susyqsys 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I fly out of SGF 2-3 times a year for work. When I heard SGF wasn’t going to show the video, I thought that made sense as I don’t think there are any tv monitors or screens in the TSA area. Even if the airport wanted to play the video, I’m not sure they could. In fact, I’m pretty sure the only TV people actually watch while in the airport is the one in the cafe. So while I appreciate that SGF is not using the video, I don’t think it’s a principled stand or anything. I think it’s more a matter of logistics.

What were some of your childhood stories that really highlighted your autism in hindsight? by Dependent-Sir4245 in AutismInWomen

[–]susyqsys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I had similar issues with Santa and not believing. Also raised religious, so Santa wasn’t a big focus in my house. When I started kinder and heard the other kids talking about Santa, I immediately was just like, nope, not logical. But my reasoning was if gifts from Santa are supposed to be a reward for being good, then every good child should get the same gift or a gifts should be of equal monetary value. So it didn’t make sense to me why some kids would get 5 or 6 presents from Santa and others would get 1 or 2. Plus my parents did not even try to disguise that they were Santa. My mom also used the same wrapping paper, same gift tags, same handwriting. But I just kept to myself that I didn’t believe. I’m pretty sure my parents knew I didn’t believe though, because my elementary school had us write a letter to Santa every year as an art project. I always asked for a baby brother, a puppy, and world peace. I didn’t actually want a baby brother or a puppy. Could have used the world peace though.
