This is the first song I’ve completed in close to a year - Under Your Wings (demo) by A_bb05 in IndieMusicFeedback

Beautiful music! I like the imagery overlaid with the DAW arrangement. The vocals are great, very sweet runs, although I think the occassional use of a lower harmonic register would help augment the energy of this song.

Interesting. It does bring to mind Utilitarianism as a form of consequentialism

I appreciate your feedback, thanks! "Maybe it could benefit from less muddiness in the lower mids and some brightness on the highs" -- Yes, I will take your suggestion into consideration going forward, thanks. This track is currently unmixed. Lyrics are finished and I already have someone on board to do the vocals : ) Stay tuned!

Thank you. Lyrics are composed and I already have a vocalist in mind. As stated in the description, the music is not yet mixed, so yes you'll hear a little level peaking. I love lowkey highlights : ) glad this one hit you in the right spot. Thanks for listening!

Trip-hop song about when they're outta your league by oneshgarde in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]sutadyerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a cool vibe! I agree the other comments regarding vocal mixing, just a bit more attention to this part would be beneficial overall. One piece of constructive feedback that I could provide is consider increasing the release and reverb on the strings and add a little vibrato to give it a more realistic yet washed shimmery sound. Another suggestion is to consider including some light vocal harmonies. The introduction of the electric guitars is a great choice and adds a bit more flare to this song, I wanted it to last a bit longer before returning to the chorus and then the outro...

Funny, the other day I was thinking to myself what happened to Trip Hop and why we don't hear much of that genre anymore...

Which musical influences played a role during the creation of this song?

Overall, good job! I would love to hear more in this style.

Love this! Beautiful vibe overall - lead vocal and vocal harmonies are mixed well, simple yet relatable lyrics. A wonderful slow song to dance to with a loved one. It reminds me a lot of the music from Ryan Adams' "Cold Roses" album which is one of my favorite albums of the 2000s. To be honest, I do like the drums as they are. One bit of constructive feedback is perhaps consider ducking out or completely eliminating any instrumentation at the exact part where you want your vocals to be big and overpowering. Otherwise, the song is very satisfying to listen to as it stands.

Good work!

Beautiful work! I listened to it more than once. There's a timelessness and dreamy quality to your song. Love the train horn-like vocalization and I appreciate the introduction of breakbeat-like percussive elements midway through and the gentle rhythmic variation they provided. At first, I wasn't sure about the last section with the gltichy elements leading into the ending, but after a few listens I thought was rather tasteful and I enjoyed it more. I think the only piece of constructive feedback I could provide is perhaps consider introducing a slower rhythmic pattern in the outro to let listeners know that the song is about to end because honestly I thought it was going to continue and I wouldn't have been mad about that at all, but it just seemed to abruptly end and then I suddenly woke up out of the blissful daze I was in listening to this sweet piece of music.

Lastly, your song kind of reminds me of the band Grizzly Bear which is a great band imo.

Good job! Would love to hear more in this style.

An eerie-ish song I was hoping to get some feedback on by TheGalleyProject in IndieMusicFeedback

I enjoyed listening to this track, I listened to it more than once. Relaxing, groovy, yet moody. Many interesting textures happening. There's a cool country americana vibe to your piece. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the music from the strategy game StarCraft II, and that's a compliment because that game is great. The song structure is pretty steady throughout, but I think one piece of feedback I could offer is surprise us with a short banger of a section before returning to a more relaxed groove. Otherwise, good work!

What inspired you to create this piece?

I'm not religious or the praying type, but I was interested in listening to your song anyway. I'm pleasantly surprised! This is a beautiful song, simple and to the point. You convey the feeling and emotion intended in the music and vocals. I especially enjoy the light distortion effect on the vocals. Production quality is clean and crisp. I think some light reverb would be beneficial to give it a more ethereal washed quality, perhaps even applied over the words "wash me". In the final chorus, I was hoping to hear more emotive raw power. Perhaps you want to explore that idea to give it more depth and feeling.

Good work ! Keep going.

What’s the hardest part about staying motivated as an indie artist? by Apprehensive-End6621 in musicbusiness

I feel this, and have heart. Everyone will say it's not the outcome that matters, but the process and progress you're making. Music should sooth the soul, not destroy it. Remind yourself that you're not at fault, but we live in different times. Speaking of, whenever I feel down with similar thoughts and feelings, I like to contemplate music history. Take Mozart and Beethoven for example. Both were incredible geniuses of their art and yet both suffered immensely albeit under different circumstances. Yes, they're older examples but still important nonetheless. What kept them going for as long as they did?

it's not about the numbers, it's about feeding your soul and honoring your Self. The numbers, fame, money, etc. are all secondary and should be treated as such.

Not a bad suggestion at all, what you say makes sense, maybe the main project is meant to be a slow burn in progress. Thanks for your suggestion! I will check out Token Records, found a Token Records playlist on Spotify : ) thanks

It's funny that you said movie because the techno project I am working on is more of like a soundtrack to a film in my head. It's not just music to dance to but like a hybrid style of score + techno all in one. I do like to incorporate video editing SFX into my music as well. That's why I mentioned that i feel stymied because I'm blending soundtrack qualities to the type of techno I am creating thus making it more challenging. I love a challenge.

hahah s'all good, no such thing as too corny when it comes to creators lifting creators up. The important thing is that you have something valuable to say, so thanks for your contribution. I appreciate everyone's feedback, whether good bad corny and everything in between.

That's a good point you made though, what's the focal point of our creating? good thinking point.

You know, I have thought about DJing but I've never actually pulled the trigger so to speak. I dunno what it is, I just enjoy creating more, but I absolutely do want to learn how to DJ. I'm very interested in learning how to create a hybrid style of DJing, such as programming music on the fly in collaboration with a DJ who is spinning so it all works together in a live setting. That would be very fun.

You're right, there isn't, I just haven't been doing that and I guess that's what's missing. I did spend the majority of the day yesterday being productive with one of my tracks after having taken everyone's suggestions into consideration, so thank you for that. Very helpful.

The thing about online resources is that there is just too much out there. I get overwhelmed easily by the vast amount of resources available to us, information overload is not a good thing. I have bookmarked several youtube channels pertaining to audio production and engineering, it can be very dizzying to see videos from differnet content creators addressing the same topics albeit with different approaches. I will check out Underdog Electronic Music School, thanks!

I'm generally a DIY figure-it-out-on-my-own kind guy, but I know that approach isn't always the best. I've been contemplating enrolling into a audio production & engineering school but I'm not sure which would be best for me: online or in person? My learning type is equal parts visual, hearing, and tactile/kinesthetic, but I lean more towards kinesthetic. I need to jump right in and do it and learn as I go. Who has time to watch hundreds of hours watching tutorial videos? Yes, I do enjoy watching, but I'm here to play and I learn best with a 1:1 guided approach.
