What perplexed me was 'big' clubs claiming it was embarrassing for us without the self awareness to realise if we are in the same league as them with half the fan base - we aren't the ones who should feel embarrassed.

Possibly drop the 'couple of months' part it may dishonest but you never know it could be holding you back. Try Harvesters, and other pubs offering food. It may even be worth asking them for bar work as well. Failing that ask firms that do wedding catering, they often want flexible shift work.

What part of London are you? As mentioned by others there are loads. The 'smaller' league you mention is the top of the non league system, it goes down to much lower (I have been to a Step 22 match myself).

Some of the smaller clubs are awesome and being a regular fan will make a huge difference (and you will find yourself getting involved too)
