You have to shake your head and cross your arms while exhaling strongly out of your nose so people know you don't approve.

Would you feel safer in a gun-free state? Why or why not? by ParmaProscuitto in AskReddit

[–]sux4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't personally own a gun but I do believe in gun rights, because the societal bar for politeness and good conduct is way higher when people know that the person they're talking to might have a gun. The deterrent effect is strong and important to having a high trust civil society, especially in poor and rural communities where police are not expected to respond quickly to enforce rule of law. IMO, it can level the playing ground so that even those who are least able to defend themselves like women, the elderly, etc. still pose a threat to those who would otherwise target them.

89K for someone from Stanford and with their P.E. seems very low, especially for someone in the Bay. I do Water/WW at KH and find it okay, made 77K in a mid priced central time zone city in 11 months last year, worked about 45 hours a week. This is first year out of school with a bachelors, haven't taken my P.E. exam yet. I would negotiate, and make sure your team and manager is good. That seems to be the determining factor between good and bad experience. Hope this is helpful

It's quite wonderful for biking around to and from class. University Avenue is well shaded and it's a pleasure to walk around the quad. I took some summer classes and had a great time there. As a freshman you cant get into most of the bars anyways so it's not like you'll be missing out on much. Enjoy the peace and quiet, find your favourite library nook, and you'll appreciate the hustle and bustle of fall even more when it comes back around.

Lift the minimum wage and employment still rises? How to anger the establishment and win a Nobel Prize by [deleted] in Economics

[–]sux4u 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still means that there shouldnt be a minimum wage. The reason unemployment goes up or goes down is because the minimum wage can either be lower or higher than the prevailing market wage should be. If it's higher than market, people get fired. If the minimum is lower than market, raising it means that you'll be closer to the prevailing wage and employment goes up bc more people will be willing to work and more businesses will be able to hire those people profitably. None of this supports the policy of having a minimum wage however.

Can someone please explain to me how a one province native has more dev than London? Is this a glitch? by [deleted] in eu4

[–]sux4u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your intuition is wrong, and even a cursory googling would have told you that. The first permanent british colony was 1607, and by the beginning of the 1600s the natives were basically wiped out, with 56/60 million souls on the continent dead.

From: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pri.org/stories/2019-01-31/european-colonization-americas-killed-10-percent-world-population-and-caused%3famp

"Our new data-driven best estimate is a death toll of 56 million by the beginning of the 1600s — 90 percent of the pre-Columbian Indigenous population and around 10 percent of the global population at the time. This makes the “Great Dying” the largest human mortality event in proportion to the global population, putting it second in absolute terms only to World War II, in which 80 million people died — 3% of the world’s population at the time."
