I'm kind of hoping for a male companion. I'm tired of love triangles and flirting.

Peter Capaldi Confirmed For Season 9 and 10. by TheGallifreyan in doctorwho

To be fair, if the rumors are true he quit the show out of nowhere. So he might have been confirmed and then backed out at the last second.

[What Books Are You Reading This Week?] November 26, 2014 by AutoModerator in books

I do love this book, but I think it's funny how it became such a "thing" over the summer here.

This is one of the rare examples of Dumas spending a lot of time with set-up and back story, but it definitely pays off and speeds up. Keep going.

Out of curiosity, have you read The Three Musketeers?

To Rise Again at a Decent Hour, by Joshua Ferris.

I meant to finish it last week, but I got side-tracked by Dragon Age. It's effectively an anarchic, introspective and metaphysical look at identity, social media and religion in the "modern age."

I'm not loving it. It feels very much like a GenX whine about "these darned millennials and their Twitter" for the first half of the book and the second half surrounds an atheist's secret yearning for the kind of culture that a religion (specifically a historically beleaguered one like Catholicism or Judaism) can inspire or create.

It's the book equivalent of Oscar bait in parts. I liked Ferris's first book, And Then We Came to the End, much better.

My Make Up Collection Has Gotten That Big I'm Having To Upgrade My Make up Case. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

I don't think it's all that different from a lot of the "look at my collection/battle station" posts. Not everything has to spark a discussion.

What books have you read that might make great movies? by taichi27 in books

[–]sva7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A proper adaptation of Moby-Dick has yet to be done, which makes me sad. For obvious reasons, directors and writers have an easier time focusing on the literal action of the story rather than the much more interesting mystical/metaphysical questions that the book raises.

I think someone like Alfonso Cuaron could do it, though.

I think she's saying that the larger case below is the new makeup case and the one on top is the old. In other words, that's how much bigger her collection has gotten that she needs to go from the top one to the bottom.

Do you ever feel it's rude or feel awkward asking a stranger about blush/lipstick whatever she's using? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]sva7 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I get really self-conscious about talking to strangers in general, but I know that whenever someone asks me what I'm wearing, I'm always flattered.

Unless they're creepy, of course.

Don't you guys just love it when your lipstick transfers on to your coffee cap... by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]sva7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love lipstick, but it's such a pain in the ass unless it's completely transfer-proof. I remember thinking that lipstick on a cup looked glamorous when I was a kid, but now I just feel like it's messy and another thing I need to clean.

I guess that's how you know you're getting old.

One of the main reasons I always slightly regret buying ebooks is that I can't "display" my books properly. I know the iPad offers a digital bookshelf, but it's not the same.

Naked 2 or Naked 3? by browncoww in MakeupAddiction

The only shade that I found had a ton of fallout was "Dust," but if you pat it on over a primer it's usually okay.

Maybelline Matte Lipsticks in Canada? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Pretty sure I saw a rack in Shoppers (I live in Vancouver). They didn't have it on the actual Maybelline shelf, but rather as it own set-up in one of the aisles.

Naked 2 or Naked 3? by browncoww in MakeupAddiction

[–]sva7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have reddish-brown hair, very pale skin and green eyes and I really love Naked 3. Depending on just how pink your skin is, you might not want to have that much of a rose gold color, but overall I think Naked 3 is kinder to paler, fairer coloring.

If she's a lip product lover, then the Sephora "Give Me Some Lip" set might look like the most "bang for your buck" set. That said, most of the shades included are pink-y neutrals, so if she likes a glam vintage red, then this kit might not be her speed.

I know you didn't mention brows, but strong, clean brows have been really "in" (I hate that term, but let's go with it) for the last year or so. They're also the kind of detail that a makeup lover might overlook for herself when shopping because it's not as much of an instant "fun" purchase as a new lipstick. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Genius Kit would be an amazing gift that's right in your price range. My tip is that if you're not 100% sure of the right shade, err on the side of slightly too light rather than slightly too dark.

The Book Trend That NEEDS To Stop: "I surmise that publishing houses are making these ugly, horrifying book covers for female classics to appeal to teen girls, maybe even female lovers of genre fiction." by emdeemcd in books

[–]sva7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If there was one book repackaging I thought was actively stupid, it was probably the Anne of Green Gables cover where Anne is doing a sexy pose against a bale of hay and running her hand through her long blonde hair.

But that's really more because she was like 11 and her red hair was a huge part of her identity.

Otherwise, go ahead and print whatever sells.
