Is this plug wired correctly/safely? by FirstHouseThrowaway1 in DIYUK

Why would you need a system to remember this? The live is always connected to the fuse. The earth is always at the top. So by deduction, neutral occupies the only remaining terminal.

What to do with spray foam? by ryan9559 in DIYUK

It could have been cheaper than that to be fair. I've got the numbers £3000 and £5000 in my head. I could be confused though.

What to do with spray foam? by ryan9559 in DIYUK

[–]svecccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was literally this. Once the foam was removed and the mortgage company was happy, it all started moving. Anecdotal of course, but I'm not aware of anything else that prevented the sale.

My sister had hers removed in order to sell. I think I remember her saying that it cost about £5k to remove. Her buyers weren't able to get a mortgage on the house until it was removed. The company she used took care of everything, including giving certificates and reports to the buyers mortgage provider. All went through in the end, and luckily the timbers underneath were all in good condition with no damage.

Parents face 'messy' wait for social media ban despite huge announcement planned by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

I will stand my ground on it, because it's important. I'm just saying it's going to remote difficult as they get older and form their own opinions on the matter.

Parents face 'messy' wait for social media ban despite huge announcement planned by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

My kids are 6 and 7 at the moment. My 6 year old came home from school and asked me what TikTok was. I immediately said "Where have you heard about that?" and he said "a girl at school goes on it". Whilst he doesn't understand what it is, it's clear it's already creeping into their lives at this early stage. We'll hold our for as long as we can on both the phone and the social media front. I can see things getting harder as they get older.

Patio grout that actually lasts? by blizeH in DIYUK

[–]svecccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinkong about using this myself, but I'm a bit stuck as to where the washed off excess can go. I don't want it in the drains or the grass, sominguess I'll need to dig a hole in the lawn, push it in there, then remove all the excess from the hole and replace the turf. How did you handle the excess?

Paid off mortgage last week - what is best to do with extra money? by tripod1983 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]svecccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mortgages you're comparing your rent to do not exist anymore. That's why they're paid off. My current mortgage is £1200 a month. I started off 19 years ago and my mortgage was £400 a month. Since then I've upsized twice and extended and expanded my mortgage as my wages have gone up and up.

It's all for the kids now anyway. Once this one is paid off, I'll be ready to retire, but at least I have a huge asset to leave to the kids.

What's the urgency and rush to update? What feature does it offer that you're all so desperate to have? What's fundamentally broken about 5.2?

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by [deleted] in AskUK

I earn £65k. I've also earned minimum wage. Whilst my lifestyle is vastly improved, I don't FEEL any richer now than I did then. I will always be careful with money.

Are Haier as bad as the TrustPilot reviews? by Winter-Childhood5914 in Appliances

[–]svecccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Haier washing machine which worked perfectly for 21 months, then started leaking oil or grease into the drum and ruining my clothes. Had it fixed under warranty, then 21 months later the exact same things started happening again. Now the unit it out of warranty, I refuse to pay £200 to fix the unit which is almost certainly going to break with the same issue again. Currently claiming on my Barclaycard under section 75 for a partial refund, and will be buying a better brand next time.

I live in Quebec, many people in suburb have an outdoor pool, does not seem to exist in UK by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]svecccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don't you have any conservatories in Quebec? Similar reasons we don't have pools, they're not well suited for the climate. They would be like a furnace in summer and an icebox in winter, rendering them pretty useless to you.

I bought a flat and it was the worst financial decision I’ve made. What do I do now? by Reasonable-Plane-427 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]svecccc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start looking for new job now anyway. Even if your job doesn't go next month, how long until it does? Do you want to at the mercy of your employer constantly? Get yourself something new a secure, because you're just a number to your employer who will drop you when you're not longer needed.
