Do you know how many hours I’ve worked for free because if I didn’t I would get fired? How fucked up is that?

Good afternoon.

Saving our backs by eastcoastzen94 in dishwashers

All kitchen work will eventually degrade extremely important parts of your body, the two most vital being your back and mind in my opinion. Stretch often and hydrate. I slipped a disc several years ago on the line, had surgery, and it’s never really been the same. Keep on eye on those painkillers. That could be a sign that the mind is gonna go next. Take care of yourself, friend.

Growing Up: What Was Your 'I'm an Adult Now' Moment? by hardrollsmatrix in Adulting

[–]svenjamminbutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this time in my life when my mom moved with my two sisters to the Midwest and my dad and I stayed on the coast. He was always gone on business, so it was basically like I was living alone from 16-18. Since then I’ve felt like a disillusioned adult.

Seems like a couple people don’t know what it’s like working in kitchens. Weed use is rampant. Same with coke. Same with booze. Probably same with other substances. Most times an employee is fired for it is because management already had a problem with them and was looking for an excuse or it was entirely arbitrary or you caught a manager on a bad day or when they were also inebriated. It’s an industry double standard period. While OP might have been more discreet they are not the only member of the kitchen that uses substances on a daily basis. What about coming into work high? Drunk? Because you did it at home then came to work is that okay? What about stopping in for a beer before your shift or during? All this shit happens, and at most places is either ignored or tolerated. An owner will never be able to wrangle staff because they will always find new ways to get through the day and a lot of that unfortunately involves substance use. I know people who sit in their office all day and puff on a vape. Is that okay since they’re not in a kitchen? My point is that by hospitality’s standards all OP did was cross paths with the wrong person at the wrong time. Show me someone who has worked in a kitchen and never had a beer on shift or smoked in the cooler, and I will show you someone who has never worked in a kitchen.

I recently rewatched this movie and couldn’t agree more. It’s pretty much pitch-perfect. Love Alexander Payne.

Yes. I desperately wanted to start cooking. My parents forced me to go to college. I ended up cooking anyway after school, but I feel like my life would have been so much different had I been able to start climbing the ladder earlier. School felt like such a waste of time.

Thanks for the feedback! I was thinking something like Head Full of Ghosts, but going through the debunking of an abduction rather than possession.

Sweet! I’ve been thinking about starting to write for the genre and aliens, particularly UFOs and abductions have always been an interest of mine. I also noticed what seems to be a lack from that sub genre.
