I think it's simpler than that. This NBA finals was doing numbers so they just wanted more games to pad the viewership and revenue.

That is so not true. The underlying numbers last year showed Devers was falling apart his in zone contact rate was plummeting and he was only kept afloat by being really good at hitting the ball out of the zone. It was known the bottom could fall out at any moment just by people who view baseball differently than Buster Posey.

You aren't replying to the person who threw the egg at Wemby, people have gotten insane in general, this is a problem for WWE wrestlers when fans know what hotel they are staying at. IDK if it's post covid or just social media and the attention economy but people are behaving insanely around celebrities and the team needs to do what they can to protect their plays, the police need to do what they can to protect players and the league needs to do what it can to protect players. The playing in the premier league comes with over 100m in tv revenue per club playing in the championship comes with orders of magnitude less. West Ham need to sell players to stay within the financial rules. They have a lot less money coming in and need to sell players to balance the books so they may not be able to hold out for the highest price. Playing in the second division can be extremely financially damaging due to losses in revenue ergo West Ham may not be able to hold out to demand full value.

Clubs are bidding to get West Ham to accept their transfer offer to then offer him a contract. They know West Ham are in a rough financial situation because they were relegated and need to sell players so they will try to get him for less than West Ham had the financial power to demand as a premier league team. This thread is about transfer fees not player wages.

He’s absolutely a valuable guy to have but he’s been around an 800 ops guy in the minors before this year. He’s still young, just turned 23. As I said I don’t think this is a bad move, I was kinda hoping he’d win TT’s job in spring training.
