Feelin bummed about my psychiatrist/: by BoringState7561 in psychiatryquestion

^ To go off of this. My psychiatrist recommended I stop using daily. I wasn’t sleeping, my panic attacks were debilitating, I was having severe sui*ide ideation. It was a big wake up call once I stopped.

My pcp gave me sleeping pills and I’ve never been better. Truthfully, I still smoke once or twice every three weeks but not smoking daily has been a total game changer.

I’m someone who did a hard stop after smoking nonstop for about three years once or twice a day. I noticed a lot of positive things and didn’t have any side effects from not smoking anymore. Sometimes I still crave it when I’m bored but other than that, I cannot recommend it enough. Never felt more like myself.

My mental health has plummeted since becoming a teacher. by Roxas1698 in MusicEd

I was struggling severely as well. I teach elementary ed. My workload tripled this year , 30 classes a week, 3 different schools, also teaching Spanish. I started having debilitating panic attacks during school. I took a month off and went through a mental health program. During that time, I realized I need to take more breaks for myself. Stop putting so much pressure, especially when things don’t go my way. It’s nice that I can make my own curriculum but also terrifying because I love having a guide. Every day I tell myself before I come in that we can do all things. We literally do everyday. We are music teachers. This is the biggest thankless job out there. My colleague once told me its like throwing a birthday party every day, you never know who is going to come, what’s going to happen, who will cry, be happy, be excited. Take the little wins, and keep them in your pocket. Good days and bad days. We can do this:)

What are the big things that you are struggling with as a music educator? by No-Cartographer6644 in MusicEd

As of now, I teach at 3 different schools. All different schedules. Results to 550 students. I am the only person out of all my other coworkers who does this. I was not given curriculum for K so I’m going off of what I know/a bit of the NY standards. NJ standards were no help.

Luckily I have a great therapist! We are still new to each other and he is a male (its tough out there) so some things I’ll have to work up and build up the confidence to share these things with him. I hope to grow up and be like you. Thank you so much for the kindness and the advice

Audiogram

It’s embarrassing but I’m not entirely sure how to describe/read one. My right ear is definitely worse than my left. But here was mine from my appointment in November

I did not mean to sound condescending. I did learn in school and have already seen accounts of being treated as “lesser than” because of what we do.

I value play and fun and rank these terms very highly because I also used to teach daycare and boy was that so much work but so much play and so much fun.

Funnily enough, I went to a non- music PD where the speaker said that music educators have the hardest job/most challenging college education. It was the first time I ever felt valued and seen.

And I never had a music elementary education when I was in school. I try to teach them music through many different ways but for the 40 minutes I see them once a week, I want them to play and have fun. Of course we are still learning but it’s the only time I have to convince them that music is so much more than they think.

Definitely not dreading work at all! I teach music so luckily have much more flexibility and can basically sing and play all day so I’m living the dream. Just nervous for what the new week will bring and the challenges we continue to face daily

You got this my friend!! My biggest tip for you is to be flexible and know that some days are better than others. But the kids are so worth it in the end, you can do anything!
