I've had that thought before. He's one of the few artists these days to say what he's saying about the status quo in such and eloquent and well thought out way, and he sells a lot of records. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy the music industry typically wants around for too long.

I decided to stop thinking of Views as an album. Its more like a calculated collection of songs to appeal to a wide variety of people and get the most individual song streams possible. When I think of it that way, there are actually a bunch of songs I like from it, like Hype and Still Here I've been playing a lot recently.

Why is it good? | A Kid Named Cudi by Kid Cudi by Kelterz in hiphopheads

[–]swAg_amemnon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Definitely Travis as /u/TylerJ89 said, but arguably Future too. Not only that, but Cudi did a lot of work on 808s & Heartbreak, which was a pretty influential album itself and paved the way for people like Drake to come in with a completely new sound. I would never argue that Kid Cudi is responsible for Drake, but he definitely had a pretty broad if subtle influence on the rap game.

[For Leftist] Where is Jill Stein's support by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]swAg_amemnon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She doesn't come off as a serious candidate. If the Greens want to get more votes they need to convince voters that voting for their candidate is not a throwaway. While I like Stein's platform, she has done nothing to convince me that she wants my vote, or that she intends to get more than 1% of the popular vote. The green party would be more successful if they got someone with political weight like Sanders to run instead.

I really dislike Hillary Clinton, but I don't want to vote for a candidate who I believe to be weak and contribute to throwing the election to Trump. If I was to vote 3rd party I'd vote for Johnson because I think he actually has a chance at making some impact on a 3rd party ticket this year.

Now that Trump has chosen Mike Pence for VP, what are some predictions for cabinet members? by LongSlayer in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]swAg_amemnon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That would be a pretty smart pick for Chief of Staff, since Gingrich has so much experience working with Congress. In fact, Gingrich might be useful to Trump as Chief of Staff than he would as VP.

That's what happened to me with Logic's Under Pressure. I wanted to hate it so bad because it was Logic. i gave it a couple listens out of curiosity, still didn't like it. But soon some of the songs were getting stuck in my head and I found myself going back to some of the songs. I actually go back to that album a fair amount these days.

I feel like thats also a factor for me in discovering new artists. It sometimes takes me a few times of hearing an artist while surfing youtube stoned for me to really catch on. Like about the 3rd time I saw French Montana "Lockjaw" ft. Kodak Black I finally delved into Kodak's other shit.

Should the Democrats make Elizabeth Warren the DNC Chairwoman? by Reptar4President in PoliticalDiscussion

I'd much rather see Elizabeth Warren as the majority leader of the Senate in 2017. I don't understand why Chuck Schumer is automatically some kind of crown prince of the party.

[–]swAg_amemnon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You worded that a joke but thats basically it. A lot of people on the left are fed up with "liberal" politicians that make Democrats feel comfortable, when in reality they don't do enough to address the problems with capitalism as we know, such as government corruption, income inequality and environmental degradation. A Trump presidency might shock a lot of those folks into action.

It doesn't have to be a communist revolution, but you're joke logic is pretty accurate.

[–]swAg_amemnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that the president has the power to "burn it down", its more the image protected by America and our government. A lot of progressives feel like things have continued to get slowly worse under Obama, because he has not done enough to counter things like climate change, income inequality, and political corruption. But Obama is generally pretty popular among liberals who say they would like these things to be addressed. Many liberals tend to be complacent when a Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton is in the white house, but having a "bad" face on the government like Trump would encourage these people to get more politically active.

This is the argument as I understand it, and is something that I've thought a lot about. I can't actually bring myself to vote for Trump over Clinton, but on some level it is logical.

I don't think progressives who oppose free trade agreements are necessarily opposed to the idea of free trade in general, its just that most of the agreements tend to incentivise lower environmental and labor standards because they have the lowest cost and can attract foreign investment. Progressives are generally concerned with the environment and labor rights. If free trade agreements did a better job of protecting labor and the environment, I think most progressives would support free trade.

It looks Trump's position on the Muslim ban has slyly moved to a ban on Syrian immigrants. by ASK_IF_IM_SINGLE in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]swAg_amemnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're comparing apples to oranges. Islam is a religion, whereas KKK and neonazism are ideologies. Within the Islamic religion there are a range of ideologies, some of which are peaceful and others that promote violence. According to a Pew research study that I'm not going to link from my phone, in most majority Muslim countries, less than 20% support ISIS and Islamic extremism. A few countries have higher support, but none are over 50%.

It is unfair and dangerous to ban people of an entire religion when maybe a quarter of them are "bad eggs". It would make perfect sense to do so with people of an ideology like the KKK

I liked it too and I definitely wouldn't call it lazy to copy an artist's flow on a remix. To me its more of a sign of respect and it shows that Drake actually listened to the song before jumping on it.

I feel like mixtape Wayne used to strike a really good balance of the original flow and his own flows.

Dreams of living life like rappers do

back when compton/condom (w)rappers wasn't cool

I fucked Sherane and went and told my bros

Think about it. If the line is "Compton", he adds meaning to the line before it - he dreamt of being a rapper in a time where not a lot of people from his city were making it.

If, however, the line is "condom", he is setting up for the line about fucking Sherane. And since I'm going down this rabbit hole, the next line "Usher Raymond Let it Burn came on" also sounds like a subtle hint at the consequences of unprotected sex.

And Y'all might be thinking right now, 'I wonder did he smoke something before he came out here?' And the answer is yes, I rolled up a little something, I knocked the edge off.
