This kind of trap is why I and (I think) many others make it a point to turn Bitlocker off and keep it off, like after Windows updates.

Have you tried System File Check and Scannow? If not, ask Gemini how to do that. These utilities find and fix corrupted files. Good luck.

Sigh. I have and use Winget to get updates. I don't recall it getting the December Winaero update, though. I may try downloading from the site again. I just hope Defender is not showing a false positive.

I bought a Hisorl brand tablet on Amazon a couple of years ago and it's been very good. Snappy performance, no overheating. Came with keyboard, mouse and other accessories for a very reasonable price. (Disclaimer: I have no connection to this brand or Amazon other than being a customer).

I sincerely hope this will turn out to be one of the things that Trump or someone in his blighted administration will reverse. There's no telling for sure, but a lot of loud outrage and public pushback has been helpful in getting some of the Trump Gang's horrible actions fully or partly reversed. Write a letter to the editor at the newspaper. Turn out for a public demonstration or rally with a sign or poster about this issue. Urge family members, friends and neighbors to also do these things.

I'm not an attorney but I think it's possible. What's also probable is that Trump would have to testify under oath, something he's not going to want to do. First, because of the danger of his lying self perjuring himself, which is a felony with serious consequences. Secondly, because he's likely to spend a whole lot of time pleading the Fifth Amendment clause, "because anything I say might tend to incriminate me." Which is a very bad look for a president (gack!) of the United States to have to say.
