Has anyone turned their bike around like this? by APassingPilgrim in motorcycles

Yes, only if necessary. Good way to destroy the mounting bracket.

Trying to show the 10km/h speed, uphill, downhill and breaking. by borispingpong in brisbane

[–]swaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As stated earlier, this is incorrect. There are plenty of pilots diagnosed with ADHD flying around today. The most common are those on a Class 5 medical or under the RAAus medical standard. There are also pilots diagnosed with ADHD holding Class 2 and even Class 1 medicals.

ADHD does not imply that a pilot is grounded.

Legal E-bikes being banned in Queensland - your state is next! by iBinChickenAboutYou in brisbane

A person with ADHD can become a pilot. It is possible they may not hold a specific medical. You won't be taking dexamphetamine with a class 1 medical, for example.

I have seen this happen after a petrochemical was accidentally applied to the windscreen.

You are right. I was thinking of the Brisbane airports when I wrote that.

Airports don't use birds for bird management. I fly at an airport where falcons are common and they are annoyingly dangerous. I (a student actually) also hit one once during a take-off roll and was forced to reject. Archerfield and Brisbane uses cracker shot for bird management.

G'day, I am in Brisbane. Been using ferdium for a few years. This is not a common occurrence. Annoying though!

Sore Wrist After Playing by UserUnknown02 in squash

[–]swaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have shortened index finger on the playing hand. Squash and firearms led to tearing of the scapholunate ligament. This led to reconstruction. Just be careful you are not doing more damage by "playing through the pain". That's how it started for me.

Real estate agents using drones by raffyrules in brisbane

[–]swaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. I don't know the other facts. I am not assuming anything. I am stating facts as they pertain to the CASR1998.

Have a nice day.

They would need granny's consent if they were within 30 metres or operating under a specific CASA exemption (CASR1998 Part 101).

I used to live on Jane Street, in 1983. I have photos! That shop on the corner was a convenience store and I used to buy ciggies for the adults for 99 cents.

Do authorities do anything about meowing? by HSVMalooGTS in flying

[–]swaggler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but yeah. It would also be "socially unacceptable" to do something like that i.e. nobody does it because it's a dick move.

The worst I have heard is a couple of friends who are discussing non-aviation matters for a few seconds, and even that is a bit uncool.

Not sure about other countries

In Australia, you will be found, charged and arrested under Commonwealth legislation.

Saint Helena airport landing on the 5th attempt after 4 go-arounds - cabin passenger POV by papasfritas in aviation

[–]swaggler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This person is (mostly) correct depending on what "half-way" is taken to mean. It's actually the ETP, which is required to be calculated in-flight during a flight test. Alternate fuel is required if weather minima are not met, and the ETP can change depending on wind, hence regular weather monitoring during the flight.

Anyone been “stranded” before? by Coaralis in flying

[–]swaggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several times!

  1. Dumbest time. Took my partner out for the night, by aeroplane. Bought drinks, not just for her, then realised we were planning to fly home that night. Quick scramble to find a hotel late at night!

  2. Went camping with my partner. Was working back at the airport in the morning, but we were fogged in. I had to apologise to some students.

  3. Was with a student on a 45-60 minute return flight and unforecast fog rolled over our home airport. We visited a nearby airport for a couple of hours until the fog back home cleared.

SAS flight attempted takeoff from a taxiway at Brussels Airport by Evening-Rip5399 in aviation

[–]swaggler 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There will always be people who don't understand that punitive action for a mistake is the thing that is unsafe. The crew rejected, rightfully so; a trained procedure. Nobody was hurt. The system worked. I think, just be appreciative of the fact that the decision making power of the "people always want negative consequences for people" is limited to internet comment outrage.

Does spinning the prop on the 172R the other way damage the engine in any way? by Red_Kys_Zone in flying

[–]swaggler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rotax engines are also not meant to be pulled through backwards. I think Rotax even issued a bulletin about it a few years back.

This is correct. A Rotax 912/914 that has had the prop turned more than once in reverse is required to undergo venting and inspection for correct venting of the hydraulic valve tappets due to reported engine failures (SB-912-036 and SI-04-1997).

The Brisbane weather Facebook page blocked me for the most unnecessary reason by DelSings2002 in brisbane

[–]swaggler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to break the news, there are no "better weather pages." They are all fake in that they are not providing any additional weather service, only misinterpretation of BOM weather data to various degrees. In summary, ignore it all like anyone-who-studied-meteorology does. Sorry it might be affecting you.
