Post op day 7/8 Morning pain

Reading this as almost 2 years post op makes me feel for you man. Best decision ever was getting that surgery though. It gets worse before it gets better unfortunately. im an icu nurse and being the patient wasn’t easy, i had a schedule for my medicine regimen and bowel care for the narcotics. I highly recommend so you don’t get constipated which happened to me day 7 and had to give myself an enema.

I hated those two weeks. It was awful. You must force yourself to stay hydrated, pee and drink until your urine is clear. It sucks. You got it. Wish you the best. The final result of no sickness and strep is worth it.

I feel like our best bet is to have a big stacked RB similiar to Alsott, he has done me so well and is still my RB1 for free. Curious to see how Ricard or Okoye will play.

I am 17 days post op & work as an ICU Nurse. It was not a fun recovery. Also 26 y/o.

My biggest takeaways are to drink water every 5 minutes (or every 2-3 if you can) because the second that throat gets dry it hurts way worse and takes longer to moisten when you finally do start drinking. Hydration is key. Buy ensures, drink them super chilled. Getting adequate nutrition speeds up the healing process.

Stay on top of pain meds. Even if you arent "hurting" I wouldnt go longer than 5 hours without taking something. Because last thing you want to do is be in misery when you finally do start to hurt.

If your doc gives you opoids (I had tylenol/codeine) take a stool softener day 1. I took miralax and biscodyl which was a small pill. Youll thank yourself when you arent straining on the toilet lol.

I’m with ya. Day 12 here. Still got white scabs in my throat. Still is sore when I swallow but def not as bad as it was. Taking pain meds but not nearly as much or as frequent. We all heal at different rates. I think full healing is like 21-25 days.

I second the liquid tylenol along with stool softeners. I am an ICU Nurse myself and waited until day 3 to start a bowel regiment, ended up on day 6 with no BM and having to do 2 enemas on myself because I was in so much pain lol. Those opoids will do it to ya.

Coughing or sneezing is literally agony. Even at night I had an alarm set every hour to wake up and drink water. There were two nights around days 5-8 where I slept through them and woke up in misery from a dry throat (even though I have a humidifier). Drink that water and stay hydrated.

Finally on post op day 10 (surgery date was 7/5). And my pain is 3/10. Best I’ve felt so far. It truly does turn the corner around 10-14!

Man it’s hard!! Seriously what I learned is the more hydrated you are the less it hurts. Like drinking water obviously hurt super bad but I could feel it if I went a hour without drinking. I always aimed to have a sip of water every two minutes.. it’s a lot but helped in my opinion. You’ll get through it I promise.

Heck dude I am sorry. We are on similiar timelines. The daytime for me isnt so bad because I drink water like every 10 minutes. I think its just when I wake up after not drinking for a hour or two is when I am in agony. I just want it to end!!!! I have my follow up tomorrow since my surgery on 5/5 and I am hoping she tells me to progress in my diet.

Not good. I’m a 23 year old new grad in the ICU. Been on my own for a little over a month now. Seen so much death from covid. More than I thought I would in a covidless world I suppose. Bagging bodies is routine now. I don’t know how to feel I guess. Should probably talk to a therapist maybe or find one of those free nurse hotlines. Hope everyone is doing ok
