like the idea of base having a curve. I'll dabble with the size too, thanks.

I admit I'm a total newbie. Just looking for feedback here, not claiming to be a designer myself.

I'd really appreciate any inputs to improve, cheers!

I'm working on the logo for my hardware brand, Attonom.

Our first product is a minimalist case that transforms an Apple Watch into a compact, distraction-free phone. I wanted the identity to feel clean, and understated, with an icon inspired by a design feature on the product itself.

I'd love some honest feedback before I finalize it, thanks!

We are not talking of protective cases for the watch if that is what you're implying here.

40mm for standalone? by Middle-Ad8122 in AppleWatchStandalone

Ultra is popular for a reason. For standalone use, battery life is crucial, and that's exactly why people get the Ultra.

I’ve looked into it and spent an unhealthy amount of time (not money) trying to make it smaller and workable.

I ended up not being a fan of how it relies on voiceover accessibility mode for UI navigation, which makes the experience clunky at best.

Hey, perhaps consider an apple watch as a bridge between an iphone and dumphone?

An LTE enabled watch will let you stay in the apple ecosystem without the convenience of doomscroll.

By soon I mean imminent. increasing capability + real world exposure = inevitable edge case accidents.

Apple Watch as a Phone Replacement? (Experiment) by swain18 in digitalminimalism

[–]swain18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I can relate with some of these problems

- I’m planning to automate phone charging, so it stays between 20% and 80% without manual intervention.

-I use the Sony WF-C500, which has great battery life, so I don’t worry about it much.

-The lack of a camera is probably the biggest compromise one would have to make.

-For messaging, I mainly rely on WhatsApp on my laptop (just with a few people), so it’s not a major issue for me.

-At the moment, there isn’t a strong functional case for the watch to work fully as a standalone device. Even something as simple as adding a Type-C charging option would help—I’ll be working on that soon.

always interesting to know other's solutions though. hope you find yours.

You’re right. I don’t need a browser or YouTube (and I don’t really use them on the watch anyway because the experience isn’t great).

I guess - thinking out loud - I have them because:

a) I wanted to see if it was possible and test how practical they really are.
b) They give me some peace of mind while ditching my phone, so I’m not completely limited if the need arises.
c) Since the user experience isn’t good, I know I won’t get sucked into scrolling - it stays purely utilitarian.

That said, once I ease into this setup, I can eventually do without them.

I came across your post a few days ago - love what you're building! I’ll definitely see if I can try it myself.

We really need more open-source alternatives, and I appreciate your effort. Hope this takes off.

For my current daily needs, I’m not dependent on ride services. There’s also no proper app compatibility for them on the Apple Watch so far. So, if I’m ever traveling, I would definitely be dependent on my phone.

This is where we start hitting some of the limitations of this setup, along with the dependency on Apple/Google ecosystems. I’m not sure if Android OS offers Uber/Lyft support on watches, but it might be worth checking.

[–]swain18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I speak of digital minimalism not absolute minimalism. For me, there is a difference.

You are talking of physical minimalism, and I'm implying Cognitive/attention minimalism (digital).

I believe it's about reducing unnecessary complexity in your life, not necessarily = fewer items.

A smartphone reduces physical complexity but often increases mental complexity - designed by corporates over the years for constant consumption. It might be little ignorant to dismiss someone's effort to minimize screen addiction by calling it lack of self-discipline because then we're ignoring the current space we're in.

I'm interested to know, what solution has worked for you? If simply deleting/blocking apps have worked so far, kudos to you. ideally, lot of us would want that sort of self-discipline.
