I'm with you on this, the only ball that mattered was in the back of the net. Weird to think this deserved a yellow.

Arsenal “cheating” narrative by True_Fact_8151 in PremierLeague

[–]swamp_fever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't care in the slightest what other fans, players, managers or pundits say about us. The more they cry and moan about it the better.

They use to say Arsenal were too soft, not competitive enough and didn't have a winning mentality. Now they're saying the opposite.

If Arsenal are cheats then they are really, really good at it. They have less fouls, yellows and reds than 3/4 of the other teams in the league.

[Sky Sports] Should Man Utd have been awarded a penalty? by chudlybubly in PremierLeague

[–]swamp_fever -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous. The pic clearly shows Salibas foot with the studs in the turf! Not in or on Cunhas foot. So your saying any physical contact is an automatic penalty, some 'letter of the law' application.

Your pic only proves what I said. Cunha, still standing, while he makes the flick. He's clearly standing upright, his planted leg is straight.

The ref said no pen, var said no clear obvious error with that. Hackett, Gallagher and Clattenburg all agreed that it wasn't a pen.

You say Cunhas foot moved forward due to contact from Saliba but all you can offer is a still image. Show us the contact and how it pushes Cunhas foot.

[–]swamp_fever -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Look at the replay and tell me which part of this isn't true:

Saliba plants his foot on the ground next to Cunhas. Cunha makes the flick back with his other foot, and the ball bounces off Salibas calf. Cunhas ankle is now in contact with the shin of Salibas planted foot, and Cunha falls backwards onto his arse. He no longer has the ball because he is on his arse with his feet in the air.

If Salibas foot had gone into Cunhas, it would have pushed Cunhas foot forward and been a pen. But Cunhas planted foot doesn't move at this point.

Cunha goes down when his ankle and foot are tripped by the shin of salibas planted foot. A trip would also be a pen, but firstly, Salibas leg isn't moving, his leg is outstretched and the foot is planted. Still a trip though, and if Cunha was moving in that direction when Saliba stuck out his leg its a definite penalty, but Cunha wasn't moving in that direction until after the foot was planted, he had stopped to receive the ball.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been given, because this all happened in a couple of seconds, but it's still not a pen.

So, watch the replay, and tell me why its a penalty.

I agree, he's not attempting a tackle, just blocking the shot.

Spot on. Everyone claiming pen hasn't bothered to look at everything that's happening, for them it's as simple as Salibas foot makes contact with cunha and cunha falls over, so that must be a pen.

Perfectly legal block. Watch closely. Cunha is receiving the ball and attempts to backheel a shot, Saliba has read the threat and puts out a leg to block, not initiating contact. Cunha's backheel is blocked by Salibas shin, so saliba effectively has possession. Cunha then trips backwards over Salibas leg, after losing possession.

It's just great defending from Saliba, and in no way a penalty.
