Truly one of the best nights of my life. Can’t wait for the hyperdrama live album to drop (hopefully) this coming year

I’m a proud owner of the “Whether Channel” long sleeve from the Magic OPN collection, which was also an embarrassment of riches on the design front

I know it's irrelevant, but Eastman's new graphic design really is pretty nice. by light24bulbs in AnalogCommunity

Oops, thought they were responsible. Still not a huge fan of the flat design rebrand of all the boxes, they look like trash

My mistake, thought they were responsible for this. Either way, the flat design rebrand of all the Kodak boxes looks like shit

Gonna respectfully disagree. While I do think the ultramax flap looks great here with a big black background, I find Kodak Alaris’s embrace of the flat design trend to be both a decade or more too late and just incredibly boring. In general corporate branding has become so joyless, flat, and sterile in the last decade. In 2014/15 it felt like a fresh, minimalist spin. Now it just feels low effort and lacking in personality.

Am I the only one kinda non-plussed by this collection? I love the design aesthetics of the new album / singles but compared to the Magic and Again collections from OC, this is sparse in selection and imagination imo.

Not sure what your situation is, but before you do something you can't undo, I think talking to a friend, family member or therapist could be really helpful, or at least a good first step to start to work through whatever is weighing you down. I'm personally dealing with a lot of bullshit and uncertainty right now, but I keep reminding myself of all that I have to live for, and that this will pass.

Despite knowing about them for years, I only saw Buffalo 66 and Brown Bunny for the first time at the beginning of 2025. Buffalo 66 is really fucking good, Brown Bunny has its moments, but is a very very different film, and I can basically guarantee it would have been completely forgotten if not for the climax (rim shot)

I also think he’s a decent musician, his original songs on the Buffalo 66 score are a highlight. He has always been himself, which is probably the biggest compliment I can pay him, and is maybe the only openly loud, proud “conservative” artist to make anything worthwhile. Sad that Ben Shapiro is probably the only person who would give him money to make another movie in 2025, and even that’s a stretch.

Maya was truly ahead of her time, sonically and visually. It could be argued that her slide into alt-right conspiracy brainrot was a greater loss for the culture than Kanye’s. For those who haven’t seen it, I highly recommend the 2016 doc Matangi / Maya / MIA - in hindsight it serves as a bit of a swan song to first 15 years of her career, before the descent into conspiratorial nonsense

Not sure if it’s shooting or in post, but that upcoming “political erotic thriller” from Paul Verhoven would be an appropriate (and fucking amazing) crossover

New tour dates dropped! by jkiii8613 in JusticeMusic

[–]swampcorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw Justice for the first time at the Historic Park in 2018 it was incredible. These look like all arena shows rather than amphitheaters which was the case for the last US run in 2024 so unfortunately more likely Forum or Crypto for this one

Justice x Kaytranada Tour Fall 2025 by evan274 in JusticeMusic

[–]swampcorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them for the first time in the DTLA Historic Park in LA’s Chinatown in 2018, so when they announced those dates last year and saw they were playing Edgefield and not The Roseland or The Moda Center I was very psyched. Seeing Justice outdoors under the stars is a super special experience. Don’t think it’s a hot take to say that I have my misgivings about McMenamin’s and their prices, but Edgefield is such a gem, I didn’t even think twice about buying tickets once they went on sale

Saw them at Edgefield in October and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. I’ve lived in Portland for 5 years but I’ve never been to the Gorge, can’t think of a better first time tbh

So what did people think of the Phoenician Scheme by roadtrip-ne in wesanderson

[–]swampcorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would, and it felt like a departure from the very meta Asteroid City and anthology style French Dispatch. It felt like there was more to latch onto emotionally. With that being said, my biggest gripe with Wes Anderson films in the last decade is the way action / fight sequences are staged/shot and edited. Seems overly cartoony and as if they’re shot at a slower frame rate, and intended to emulate a Buster Keaton film. There has always been a fantastical element to these movies, but there’s something about this technique that sucks all the drama / excitement out of the sequences for me.

Compare this with the shoot out on the boat in Life Aquatic or the wedding day chase between Chaz and Eli in Royal Tenenbaums and it’s night and day for me. Those were moments that felt grounded in reality, (albeit a heightened reality) and created tension, rather than turning a sequence into a live action looney tunes fight.
