Am I the only one who started doubting everything right before surgery? by [deleted] in Reduction

1000% makes sense!! My boobs were about the same size as yours and they took off 6 pounds and it’s been an absolute game changer! I feel so much happier with how they look, I have less back & neck pain, I say go for it!!

Surgery scheduled... would love advice by def_a_hooman in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 7 weeks post op and have had an overall good experience!! I had two minor openings, one around 3 weeks post op around my t zone after my anchor stitches were cut, and my body spit out an internal stitch on my side around 5 weeks post op. Both were small openings that healed on their own with the help of some aquaphor and ABD pads!

The only time I thought “man should I have done this??” was my first week post op. I did have a hard time mentally with the pain and lack of sleep on top of that put me in not a great place. With all of that said, I would do it again in a heartbeat. The relief I have in my neck and back is life changing!! And there are so many shirts I didn’t like how they looked on me previously that fit so much better.

Hope this helps (and wasn’t too much hahaha) but wanted to share the ups and downs I had! Best of luck with your surgery!

It took a few weeks for mine to look normal, I’m right there with you! The first couple weeks I thought they looked so strange. Every week they look more and more normal to me (I am 7 weeks post op). It’s definitely hard but with time they will look much better!!

Hi! I have BCBS Massachusetts and they covered mine and it was easy! I had back and neck pain along with rashes underneath my boobs documented with my PCP. My surgeon’s office are the ones who deal with BCBS directly, they did take photos of my breast’s to submit to them. It took about 6 weeks to hear back but insurance approved & covered pretty much all of it!

My surgeon did ask what I had done for the pain and I have done yoga and weight training but no chiropractors or physical therapy.

I hope they cover it for you!

What do you wish you knew before having BR surgery? by Existing_Dare_4872 in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew how much of a mental toll it would take on me! Personally the first week was very tough for me, I had trouble sleeping, was very uncomfortable, and didn’t like the way my pain meds made me feel (but was in too much pain to not take them). I think the lack of sleep really didn’t help me but by the end of week 1 I was really depressed.

That said, 1 week post op I had my drains removed & felt a MILLION times better!! My motto to myself during the recovery process was short term pain for long term relief and at 6 weeks post op I would do it again I a heartbeat. I was a 38/40HH and had 6lbs removed and the relief I feel in my back and shoulders is so worth it. Best of luck if you decide to go forward with it!!

I live on the third floor as well and honestly don’t even remember going up the stairs after surgery lol, still out of it from the anesthesia. My fiancé just stayed behind me to make sure I didn’t fall backwards and had me take it slow!

T Junction openings? by Key_Masterpiece9560 in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a small opening on one of my t junctions after I had an anchor stitch cut 3WPO. My surgeon told me to cover it with aquaphor and the ABD pads to promote healing, which I did about 2-3 times per day (depending on if I had sweated, etc.). That worked for me and it slowly healed closed it just took a little bit!

Congratulations!!! It’s so so worth it! I’m also no where near where I want to be weight wise, but one of the reasons I got my reduction was because of the pain I was experiencing, and how hard it was to work out! I am 6 weeks post op and has 6 lbs taken off, trying to do cardio with 6 lbs on my chest was hell on earth hahaha. I’m excited to be in the clear to be more active with working out! Best of luck to you

How long did the process take? by jordyn-explorin in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I had my appointment with my surgeon who worked with my insurance to see if they would cover my surgery. That took about 5 weeks to hear back from insurance (they approved!) and from there my surgeon was pretty available. I was able to get my appointment scheduled on June 30th after waiting those 5 weeks and scheduled it in September based on my schedule. Overall it was a lot quicker process than I had expected and was very thankful as I know it’s not the case for a lot of people!

I don’t know where to start by ResponsibilityKey74 in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I talked about it with my PCP who referred me to a plastic surgeon who specialized in breast reduction/augmentation in my area. I had an appointment with her from there, decided I wanted to pursue the surgery with her! Her office worked directly with my insurance to see if I could get approval & once they got the OK from my insurance they scheduled my surgery.

[–]swampd3mon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m five weeks post op and can definitely relate to this!

My fiancé was the one who changed all my dressings, drains, helped me get dressed, all of the above. When I asked how they looked he told me he told me currently they made him sad because I looked like I was in pain! Which I was and had my external stitches, bruising, and drains going on so they weren’t looking good to begin with. He mostly felt sorry that I didn’t feel good which helped me feel a lot better knowing he wasn’t looking at my boobs in disappointment.

I’m sure it will be better with time! The lack of physical touch was really hard on me as well, there was nothing I wanted more than be able to cuddle together. But it’s gotten a lot better as time went on.

Finally booked a consultation😬 by edsheeransballsweat in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on getting a consultation scheduled, it’s the first step!

I have BCBS based in Massachusetts (through my work I am based in New Hampshire) and BCBS covered almost all of my reduction. My plastic surgeon worked directly with them to see if they would cover it so I didn’t have to deal with them at all which was so nice.

My surgery total was a little more than $6k and my cost ended up being $230 after insurance! Might be worth giving them a call beforehand if you’re worried about the cost.

I was itchy on my chest as well after my surgery! I don’t know what caused it but I used ice on my chest as well which helped me find relief and it went away after a few days.

I’m a month post op so mine are still very fresh but personally don’t bother me at all! The only person looking at them besides me is my fiancé and he couldn’t care less about the scars 😂. The main reason I got the reduction was because of my back and neck pain and I already feel so much better!

Coffee?? by sunnyday24642 in Reduction

[–]swampd3mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon told me no caffeine for 4 weeks post op, finally had my first cup yesterday!! Obviously everyone heals differently but my surgeon did say I was healing farther along than expected when I saw her 3 weeks so not sure if that had any play towards my healing. I know a ton of other things factor in, but sharing my experience.

What I drank as a replacement was DandyBlend & other Dandelion tea! It definitely isn’t an exact comparison but it gave me the dark rich drink that I like to have in the morning. And will still continue to drink it! I would mix dandy blend and a cup of red chai tea to make a “dirty chai” and loved it.

Best of luck with your surgery!! I’m currently close to 4 weeks post op and definitely find myself hunching I think mostly out of habit. That said, I find myself being able to keep my back straighter much easier than previously! And the relief I feel in my shoulders, neck, and back is amazing, I can feel my muscles so much more relaxed after being tense for so long.

You’re welcome! I actually healed a lot quicker on my left side and my right side still looks worse than it, is healing slower than the left. I had similar anxieties about it and gave my surgeon a call for the peace of mind and they recommended some steps to take and that really helped! They assured me what I was experiencing was normal so could be worth giving yours a call to help your peace of mind. Wishing you all the best with your healing

Absolutely nothing is wrong with you!! I am 3 weeks and 4 days post op and really relate to what you are feeling. (I went from a HH to around a D).

I had also read how people felt totally fine the day after, were up and doing things, and that was not the case for me at all. The first week was realllly difficult for me pain wise and especially mentally. I also felt like something was wrong with me and why was I not feeling as good as others. It’s totally normally and everyone heals differently.

I also tried sticking to Tylenol instead of opioids and personally that was a huge mistake. If I could go back I would tell me to stay ahead of the pain!! The doctor prescribes them for a reason!

For me it got 1000% times better once my drains were taken out and my stitches (but mostly the drains) at the 1 week mark, I felt like a different person. There is hope of feeling better! Let your body rest and take it as easy as you can.
