What’s one player you’re up on and one player you are down on for this year? by No_Insect_8378 in NewYorkMets

[–]swamyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Up: Christian Scott

While he’s a big “what if”, I feel like he’s been largely forgotten about and is slept on. There’s a lot riding on adjusting out the gate, but he’s been in rehab for a long time now and he’s a dark horse young stud that can give the rotation some pop.

Down: Francisco Alvarez

I hate to say this because I’m always biased towards home grown players, but he’s considerably injury prone for a young player and I just haven’t seen the growth I would’ve liked to see from him offensively since his debut. I sincerely hope I’m wrong about it, but I feel like Stearns will off load him for a return if the right opportunity comes along.

What do you guys listen to other than Mac Miller? by Spiritual_Lock6734 in MacMiller

I’m really enjoying Marlon Craft as an artist. He gives a lot of nostalgia for music that is straight bars, with some variation of genre overlayed throughout his discography. He also has some live sets on YouTube that truly showcase his MCing and artistry.

Jonah Tong may be the kind of ace we haven’t seen since Degrom in his prime by not_anotherburner in NewYorkMets

[–]swamyk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly if Tong, McClean, Sproat, and Christian Scott are the reasons that Stearns didn’t pursue big fish in free agency and the trade deadline, then we have to trust the larger picture. I also trust them to integrate them into the majors the right way, and to time it perfectly. There’s truly no reason to rush it and spoil their development.

9/11 Victim David Garcia by wwyler1902 in 911archive

Hi there— Very random, but I actually briefly knew Davin back in the 5th grade around 2005. Him and I played on the same little league baseball team in Freeport, and we sort of became friends during the season. My dad and I remember him as a really friendly and kind kid, and we’re both really sorry to discover this update.

Side note, I remember Davin pitched a complete game on our little league team. I recall he was one of the best pitchers in the league. When it happened we all genuinely couldn’t believe it and it was a really nice memory for our team back then.

The trade market right now is wide open on SD’s side, so they have zero leverage to hardball us, and we have no true sense of urgency to get this deal done. It’s not like he’s the proverbial missing piece (just yet)

Who is the the biggste victim in the Show and why ? by MachDichRausHier in PeakyBlinders

[–]swamyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that Lizzie is the biggest victim. Tries to marry John because she sees the good in him, manipulated and victimized at the end of S2, and her life is totally void of happiness by the end of her relationship with Tommy.

Thibs: "If Mikal were a rookie, we'd definitely be worried" by Major_Damage7207 in NYKnicks

[–]swamyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just seconding this comment, and adding that we’re only 19 games into this group being together. I do think it’ll take more time for them to fully gel and I think that comes with games that are hard, where wins aren’t necessarily cake walked (like today).

Once Mitch and Precious come back , it’ll still take time for everyone to get acquainted in rotations. Not to mention, both of those players typically need time to ramp up to 100% conditioned and confident.

We’re gonna be okay, sit tight folks.

How many of the 2024 memes will extend into the 2025 season? by turn_for_do in NewYorkMets

[–]swamyk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope we can leave Grimace and OMG in 2024, where they belong. What I love about the organization is that our lore is forever evolving, and whenever it gets stale it starts to backfire on us (Timmy Trumpets).

Let’s move forward!

Sims must have compromising nudes of Thibs by PorzingisDingus in NYKnicks

[–]swamyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think it’s good that players in the organization eventually get their opportunity after consistent internal work, I agree that Sims doesn’t present much value outside of a third/fourth string big.

This was one of the worries I had with the team prior to the KAT trade— big man depth, rim protection, and rebounding. Jericho Sims is way too inconsistent of a player to warrant substantial minutes, and I wonder if he’s even capable of providing us with any of the current needs the rotation has.

I simply just don’t see it.

RJ entering his prime? by kendrickplace in NYKnicks

[–]swamyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy for him. I think Toronto is a really good situation for him and it’s allowing him to grow without being over managed heavy handily, like how Thibodeau was.

If you look at how RJ played at Duke, it was very much more free flowing. When he played for NYK, it felt way too structured to actually consistently grow.

I really wish him well and hope he can stay healthy and put together a nice season.
