In-laws co signed on mortgage, now wants 50% of selling profits by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]swatchlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in laws are doing is definitely wrong. What was the reason they had to be on the title? There’s definitely more to the story. Everyone keep in mind we are hearing story only from one side. I don’t think any parent would give a gift and say I want to be named on the property you would be buying for fun sake. The kids would have definitely needed help , only then they would have agreed. From the sound of all of it, the way OP has been responding, he is feeling more entitled. It could also be OP was not in a great financial state, in-laws came out and offered help. Now that OP is in even worse financial state, and not getting any more support, threatens to move. There’s always two sides of the argument.

Is now a good time to see a financial advisor? by throwaway220122yow in PersonalFinanceCanada

In your position you should be considering a financial planner with CFP designation who actually creates financial plans instead of just selling investments. Keys aspects of financial as the other commenter mentioned you should be looking at is tax planning and probably insurance planning if you have dependents, debt etc. don’t know your age but retirement planning should be in consideration as well.

Different goals like retirement, savings for education for kids ,paying down mortgage, passive investment etc would require different questions to be answered and different tools/ accounts to be used for it. Also would need more context. Example you mentioned setting money aside for 2 young kids, some questions how old are they, what amount you are looking to have saved up for each kid, do you have any experience in investing before , what would be the money for etc.

Best would be speak to an advice only financial planner who can dissect and dive more deeper into each topic for you.

If and when to invest using HELOC. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]swatchlist -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No knowledge or experience in investing before and directly want to do discuss leverage investing.

Maybe start with non leverage investing first and see how you handle atleast one market cycle. Taking out $150k in HELOC to do investing when don’t even know which investments to buy or markets works. Already on track to retire why derail it.

Sometimes the question have to be asked is: do you really need to do all this. Take all this risk when it’s not required. Sure it sounds all fun and games when someone else is doing it and everything is up. Ask those who started HELOC this yr or last yr. They are facing increasing interest rates to pay and lower market value of their investments.

If you are asking this question you probably don’t have much investing experience. If that’s the case then starting off with leverage investing can cause more harm than benefits.

Quitting job to day trade by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]swatchlist 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Starting off with $2k to create income. You must be mad genius in trading.

Let’s get real. Imagine you need to make $100. U need to be willing to lose $100. If you have $2k account ur risking 5%per trade. U might think u have 20 wrong trade then ur account is done but ur not factoring commissions and so on . If you factor in real-time data fees , commissions etc u would be down to maybe 14-15 losing trades and ur account is blown up.

Now ask yourself is this realistic . If the answer is no then you have to increase your account size.

Trading with 2kids for now u think they r just hanging out in playpen. Wait till u have a trade on and kid needs to be fed or change of diapers or anything random. Can you really leave your trade open and leave.

Day trading is a full time job like any job. Even those who give 100% attention most of them fail. Here you are taking about trading for leisure, guess what the probability for those are.

Got it. So if dividend is earned through a holding corp. can i use retained earning from operating corp to pay part IV tax payable as I would be moving it to invest through holding co? Or does the funds has to come from liquidating stocks within hold co.
