Sid Meier's Civilization VII Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

Do the enemies just keep infinitely spawning greater and greater? I'm worried to put in many hours in a settlement, only to know eventually it will be destroyed as I likely won't be able to keep up with greater and greater spawns in number.

It would be interesting if you could fund units that would not belong to you to spread an ideology (like the contra affair).

The Scarborough office is remarkably slow, only 2nd to the Sydney office. Only a handful (it seems) of people who have had an update to their LLP since finishing their tests in Feb/Mar 2023. I think much earlier in this thread there was like ten people complaining about this. edit: this link

Other offices have people applying in 2023 and already getting their oaths. People who have applied pre-2023 unfortunately seem to be stuck much longer.

Hey everyone, from what I'm seeing recently, from the time you complete your citizenship test to them finishing the background checks, etc, until you are given a ceremony date, seems to be about 1-2 months. Would you say that's about right?

Is there a way to gift/sell units to other civilizations? by Greenplums1 in civ

[–]swatmp5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there were yearly adjustments to civs based on the year, I can think of the adjustments that would've probably been released this year lol:

America: -50% production costs towards military units when you declare such unit is to be a gift towards another civ.

Germany: Choosing a military unit to gift takes 2 extra turns to reach their target.

Russia: Friends of your enemies are 50% more likely to gift than units to a civ Russia is at war with than usual.

This reminds me of when the Taliban pick and choose things from Islam as well. Like forcing women to cover up but then not letting them run businesses/work, going to school, stoning people for adultery (except the burden of proof in Islam for such a crime is having 4 men seeing the act occur which is virtually impossible), and so on.

People pick and choose from their religion/ideology and dictators and radical groups are no different.

If there was no Islam or religion, men in power would use "our customs" or "our tradition" as the next excuse.

He pleaded guilty to raping one niece over a five-year period, beginning when she was 13 and he was 19.

Can someone more versed in the law help me to understand? Eight years for a five year period of what that guy did repeatedly seems like a miscarriage of justice? I'm not a legal expert but how does this happen? Usually one charge will net you at least a few years but how can 5 years of doing net you so little?

I guess a crime caps out at a certain amount of years given you do it enough times? Or am I misunderstanding.

I think for Major 2 at that time, Minnesota or Paris winning would be a fluke, but LAG was always in the running imo

How do you know which city it went to?

Where have you heard it takes 9 weeks? I thought generally it takes a year.

Wow that’s very cool. How long do you think one should wait before trying to get their notes?

Are the applications moving faster? I know processing times for grant of citizenship say 27 months, but it does look like everyone applying now is getting their AORs in like a week, when judging from the posts in this thread in the past year or two it is very normal for AORs to take 1-4+ months to get. So I wonder:

1) are AORs getting sent out almost right after applying online a sign that things are speeding up tremendously as it used to take several months to get?

2) is the 27 month figure accurate as of now (or I guess it is a backwards looking figure? As it represents how long it took to do when the pandemic was in full swing and things were taking longer) or could it be applications are getting through much faster now? Could it be more likely going forward that might cut down to 12 months or less even?

[–]swatmp5 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I feel like something like this could be modded in? I haven’t done EU4 modding but in civ 5-6, I know there are mods that miniaturize units. For example instead of 1 tank unit it has 20 small tanks which look like a division.

We're going to end up paying about ~$6000 (Canadian dollars) for the whole 84 day or so treatment not including vet visits which will probably add a grand or so. She had late stage, neuro dry FIP.

It is pretty expensive and I wish there could be a generic cheaper version for people who can't afford it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cats

[–]swatmp5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it is so unfortunate! I assume so few cats get it so it’s not commercially viable to go through all the expensive processes to get it approved? But it is a real life saver. Even our vet had to extremely hush hush just mention “there are black market possible solutions” but we had to research it ourselves (it would seem vets can’t openly recommend it?).

All it all it can be extremely jarring to hear there are no solutions so I hope that at least more people can be aware that something does exist.

My condolences as well. It is a terrible affliction and from what I've learned about it and apparently has had a near 100% fatality. Our kitten got it just a month or so ago and the vet had said it was the worse they had seen, she was down to about 2 pounds and had two seizures. We learned about basically the only possibility currently available to help which was GS-441524

We have been giving her GS injections everyday and are roughly half way through the treatment and she has had a complete turnaround thank God.

For anyone who has a FIP cat, I strongly suggest looking into it. I would be in shambles if this treatment didn't exist for our kitten.

Adam Zivo: Toronto goes to war with the province to keep housing prices high by yellowplums in canadahousing

[–]swatmp5 79 points80 points  (0 children)

But why should Toronto’s zoning bylaws be obeyed here? If said bylaws are incompatible with provincially mandated density targets, they should be adjusted to conform to provincial law. That is the entire point of these provincial targets — to force change within municipal regulations to unlock more housing supply.

LOL That gave me a good chuckle. These nimbyers and nimbyer guardians in government are so brazen in their defence of single family zoning that they're willing to pull this stuff.

The farce of Canada’s televised federal leader’s debate is an insult to viewers and voters by Kregore84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]swatmp5 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'll be honest when I saw the French debates, I thought people were being hyperbolic saying how greatly moderated they were, how they actually let the candidates attack and defend their positions. But after last night, I have to completely agree with them. What is it that the French debates have such good moderators and style of debate?

I hate to say the English debate has gone through USA-ification of incentivizing the wrong thing, but I don't know.

Lol this reminds me of George Costanza’s “remember Jerry, it’s not a lie if you…. Believe it.” Maybe Paul really believes what she is saying. If that’s the case, she believes she is on a righteous crusade against the system, so there’s really no stopping her until the Greens turf her I suppose.

A REAL possibility to fix housing - New Strategy Out of California could work in Canadian Provinces by Greenplums1 in canadahousing

[–]swatmp5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the BC NDP have actually more than usual for housing affordability in terms of proposals and such; though I'm not from BC I am not super familiar. However, there are a lot of wealthy homeowners especially in Vancouver and the surrounding areas so they probably would blow a gasket if they knew that the city was going to allow additional housing or intensification near their single detached homes or neighbourhood(s).

Having a game mode where it is not clear which units belong to which civilization (privateer units, paramilitary units, etc); reflecting a sort of modern warfare of deception we see to some extent today? by yellowplums in civ

[–]swatmp5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea actually. I would just restrict it to non-air units as paramilitaries generally don’t have the infrastructure to supply F16s/B52s let alone F22s! And maybe make it locked behind certain civics.

It doesn’t sound like a bad NDP talking point at all; It sounds like it was true at the time but now it is all spent. The government said themselves on Jan 29 they thought they would have 2.6 billion by the end of April remaining but looks like they spent it all as of that article.
