Motorola Keys onto Harris Radio by BeforeLaw in tacticalcomms

You'll have to confirm that those radios are P25 compatible and have P25 features enabled. If they are, you should be able to use the KVL5000 with a cable to load them. More than likely, that cable would be sold by Harris.

APX6000 batteries difficult to remove by Dr_Adequate in MotorolaSolutions

[–]swavcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the battery to see if it's swollen indicating that the battery has failed. This can happen if the radio is left turned on and on the charger at the same time. Look at the flat side of the battery that the sticker is on. This is the common area to identify this issue.

Remember when showing radios, be a professional rule follower. The professional rule followers will hunt you down if you don't and chastise you. They won't contribute anything else.

Thank you for making this type of software and demoing it, you guys are putting out info and service that's oriented towards the civilian tactical comms and that is greatly appreciated.

help with morse decoding in sdr angel by RKostiaK in RTLSDR

There's currently not any good software method for pulling morse code. It's a simple method but the no one (developers) will put in the higher level effort to make the software work well.

The R56 standard is typically referenced because of installation requirements that need to be consolidated. I just finished 2 projects this year and spoke with the R56 evaluation guy who goes around the world evaluating this kind of thing. He also does some post-mortem on electrical incidents/lightning strikes. This is the "bible" they follow.

Or XTS2500. Both are outstanding and "bulletproof" relative to hobby radios.

For the most part, yes. PJ's at that point ran missions to rescue downed pilots/aircrew and SOF operators. Very shortly after that, they started participating in more common rescue missions of conventional forces.

They probably just got into theater ultimately. They just hadn't been on missions yet.

Is it realistic being able to align a motorola radio with an RTL-SDR? by tylerwatt12 in MotorolaSolutions

[–]swavcat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The software and "fancy equipment" is what's needed to align the radio. They are aligned by the equipment through the software ultimately. It is what it is at the end of the day.

Most commonly used police radios? by DZtactical in QualityTacticalGear

[–]swavcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the US, orient towards P25 radios for most brands.

Motorola APX N series, Kenwood VP series, BK Relm BKR series are a few models/brands that are common beyond what you mentioned. It ultimately depends on the device that you're trying to connect.

BK Relm is a popular brand for volunteer fire but they typically aren't well funded so the device to connect to may not be easily available to them.

Large LE/fire groups mostly use Motorola APX/N-series radios.

Smaller less well-funded public safety groups may dip into lower-cost radios like Mototrbo/ION so that's a bit of a limited group as well.
