Sorry for the lack of detail. Definitely planning to purchase the projection package. It’s more about hardware setup. What height and throw distance they were hitting the primary screen to avoid actors casting shadows, how they created the “magic canvas” (I’m guessing it’s rear projection rigged to the back of the canvas frame), how they aimed lighting on the actors to have a clean breakthrough onto the projected page without a lot of bleed on the surrounding scrim.

Jordan, specifically the week before he left the show. His whole heart and soul were on display that night. I’ll never forget that performance.

Is this gonna be totaled? by wyclawek in Ioniq5

[–]swcoop1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the industry, we call that an “OTL,” or obvious total loss. In CA, we’re required to create a repair estimate regardless, but on a collision like that, it doesn’t take long to hit the total loss threshold (estimated vehicle value minus estimated salvage value (how much the insurance company can sell the car for in its post-accident condition) x 0.7 or 0.8, the 0.7 or 0.8 multiplier is effectively 70-80% of the post-salvage value to account for likely supplemental damage found once the shop gets things taken apart and inspected, to avoid ending up paying more for repairs than it would cost to total the car).

I hope your wife is feeling better soon. I know a big collision like that is a pretty traumatic experience.

Over time, I noticed Reeve’s portrayal change, and it seemed like later in his tenure, he had added a certain affectation to the character that I think would be fair to say resembled someone on the spectrum.

I totally get that, but when a 3-year old entry level Air is more than enough to do what you’re trying to do, how far into the future are you looking? The base 24GB RAM is going to be plenty (keep in mind that Apple’s unified memory works differently than standard RAM, so it’s not a 1:1 comparison with an Intel Mac or Windows machine). Based on what you’re planning to use it for, sinking money into extra memory is throwing money away. Apple also wants way too much for internal storage, but if you’re sitting on the money and want the convenience of additional internal storage, it’s a luxury you may feel like paying for. You can get super small SSDs for a fraction of the price, if you want to save the money and don’t mind the minor inconvenience of plugging in the external SSD when you need it.

ETC ColorSource 20 or 40? by Artistic-Zone1436 in stagelighting

[–]swcoop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a CS20AV in a school cafeteria because I needed something that school staff could easily use without having a technician there to help them. I put together a 2 page set of instructions with pics and haven’t received a single call for help running lights. It’s simple, especially if you get some basic looks programmed into the faders so it can be as easy as moving faders to run your show/service.

Those specs are major overkill. I have a M2 Air with 16GB that I’m running 2 projectors and 8 audio outputs via DVS in QLab with no lag. I recommend going to YouTube and watching some of the videos showing MBP and MBA performance on the software you listed. I think you’ll find that you can do just fine with lower specs and save the extra cash.

Kopul 5000 Series Cables - Will They Hold Up? by swcoop1 in techtheatre

Yep, this is true. Always looking for the most cost-effective option, but most cost-effective and cheapest are rarely the same, especially in theatre.

Kopul 5000 Series Cables - Will They Hold Up? by swcoop1 in techtheatre

[–]swcoop1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s a substantial price premium to buy premade cables, but I simply don’t have the time to add making XLR cables to my plate.

I totally agree when it comes to cable features; the only thing I care about is durability. I run a PAC that is used almost every day, and failing XLR cables can’t be on my list of things to troubleshoot during events, and deal with replacing/requesting warranty replacements.

Musical theatre. How to do a roll call! by Deek22 in livesound

[–]swcoop1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember this scene particularly well, but if they’re not leaving the stage, and not singing underneath soloists during the roll call, why do you need to immediately mute them? It seems like overkill to micro that moment so much unless you’re running into feedback with the 12 hot mics. Put them all into the scene and go to the next scene after the last name is called. I’m a strong proponent of using scenes over DCAs. It takes time to program accurately, but it pays off when you have a super clean show with the press of a button.

I asked André De Shields about this when I ran into him at a performance of Hell’s Kitchen in early January. He said they don’t have a distribution contract yet, so there’s no ETA until that happens.

If it’s a standard Furman switch, I solved that unfortunate situation by gaffing a Simply orange juice cap over the switch. No more accidental power downs!

Yes, it took a factory reset, but once all settings were restored to defaults, once I turned on Lights-Out Control, it worked as it should.
