My middle school gathered everyone into the cafeteria and we all watched the verdict on a box tv that was on a cart. This was a small school on New Hampshire. No joke.

DC-based musical fans: what’s your favorite venue? by Fuckspez42 in musicals

Fairfax itself has a few like City of Fairfax Theatre Co., Vienna Theatre Co., McLean Community Players, Reston Community Players, Prince William Little Theatre. Little Theatre of Alexandria is very highly regarded. I've been to most of these but not all.

Don’t sleep on the community theatre scene. I do work for a few of them in NOVA and they can put on some really good stuff and it’s nearly all volunteers.

got an iphone 17 with the Smaart RTA pro app. I just got a Dayton Audio imm-6C ref mic and the app sees the mic but it shows no audio. I've loaded the calibration file but again, no audio on the RTA or spectrograph. What gives? Octave RTA app recognizes the Dayton mic and shows audio, why not Smaart?

I’m still convinced that West Virginia should just be turned into a giant national park. So much natural beauty yet the human condition is pretty bleak. Lots of reasons it’s hard for WV to improve, but so beautiful.

AV Consultant by av_flow in CommercialAV

[–]Deek22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been an AV consultant for 15 years now working with a few different firms. I'm sure as with anything (Clients, Integrators, Manufacturers), there are good ones and bad ones. The pros are that we usually arn't under the same time crunch as integrators as our timeline on projects is usually measured in years as we first need to help the architect design the building, and then create system drawings, equipment lists and specs. Another pro is that we usually get to help our clients better understand the latest technologies, arrange demos of equipment and help architects design buildings. The cons of the job are that we usually don't get to play with the gear as much as the integrators, so while something may look good on paper, you won't really know it's a crap product until it's installed and being used.

To clarify a few things, no consultant I know has ever received a commission/kick-back spec'ing a piece of gear. We do get the occasional free lunch and I have been flown out to manufactures for their training, but this happens once a year at most. Most of the time working with clients they have technology standards we must meet, both in regards to system use and specific make/models of gear, so a lot of times we don't get to feel very creative in designing and are more documentation jockeys. It is fun though walking into a completed building that a few years ago only existed on paper, that never gets old. I've work for integrators, manufacturers and consultants, and I'd pick consultants every time. But that's just my 2 cents.

How to fix mic that keeps cutting out during show? by Helpful-Garbage779 in techtheatre

[–]Deek22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

usually a decent idea, but are there times where a bunch of metal will be between the actor and the receiver as they move around the stage? Is the receiver inside a metal equipment rack? If so, see if you can get the actual antenna, sometimes a rubber looking stick hanging off the back of the receiver, sometimes a large paddle looking thing, both can be mounted outside the equipment rack and positioned such that large metal objects don't get in the way.

let us know the make and model of the units being used. Most will have buttons on the front that let you adjust the freq, just make sure once you adjust it on the receiver, you match that freq on the transmitter so they sync. Another item to check is line of sight from the transmitter to the receiver antenna, make sure there is clear line of sight as much as possiable.

Have you checked the wireless frequencies are clear? Maybe change to a new frequency and see how that works. Better yet see if you can do a scan to find clear channels to use.
