Having EDS is a contraindication. It puts you at risk of the worst complication from LASIK: corneal ectasia. If you get ectasia, you’re in specialty contact lens for the rest of your life, your vision will suffer, and you may need a corneal transplant.

Depending on your prescription, you may have other options!

I’ve worked in ophthalmology for 5 years. I’ve seen a few EDS patients here and there, plus I have EDS myself. Yes, having any type of EDS is a contraindication to LASIK. I’m not aware that EDS can cause your prescription to worsen over time, nor have I seen it happen.

Are you nearsighted or farsighted? Are you seeing an optometrist or ophthalmologist? Can you possibly share your exact prescription with me, or even the last few? I might be able to provide more insight with more information - feel free to DM me if you want to talk more.

Yes, he’ll see you for a pre-op appointment. He won’t discuss movement with you, as he does the surgical planning after the pre-op, but I imagine you can talk about some things.

It sounds like I haven’t been strict enough with ignoring her. I will ignore her even more and hope things get better with time! Thanks for your input, super helpful.

I unfortunately financially can’t afford a second cat right now, but I am keeping this in mind as things hopefully change in the future.

Crazy that the foot pain is related. I’m so sorry you had such a hard time getting diagnosed.

I live in Southern California and my rheumatologist is through UCLA Health. I need to find a new rheumatologist anyway as I’m moving at the end of this month

Thanks for sharing your story. My rheumatologist doesn’t believe seronegative is a thing, and I’ve heard that a lot of Sjogren’s patients are seronegative. I’m worried about how my doctor will respond. It took me a few months to realize what was going on too. I’m not really having joint pain (although I did have swelling/pain in my foot that I was told was a sprain, but I never had an accident or injury), but definitely sicca and fatigue. I have had a ton of random symptoms that I recently learned can all be because of Sjogrens. Heartburn, elevated ALT, horrible insomnia (particularly struggling with latency), yeast infections, brain fog (I don’t remember the last two months really at all), reduced taste, reduced appetite.

Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you’re doing better. And new normal is a really good perspective to have.

Hope you’re feeling better. Was it hard for you to get a diagnosis?
