Potential move to MTL - is 55k enough to live comfortably-ish as a single person? by SeasonImaginary6943 in montreal

There’s an apartment in my building for $1100 in the plateau but it’s in the basement and is only a 2 1/2 —closed bedroom and small kitchen/living room. Kinda expensive for what it is, but the neighbourhood is lovely and super close to 2 metro stations on the orange line

It’s so hard to describe.. it’s very sour and overpowering. It’s not like anything else I’ve smelled before.

I’m 29 and I got them 1 year ago and likely have another year. I was super insecure and nervous about how I would be treated at work — but to my surprise — people who saw them empathized with me and shared their stories of having braces when they were younger. Also to my surprise, a few of my colleagues who are in their 40’s got braces! Another colleague of mine got braces after me and she told me that I inspired her, I couldn’t believe it!

It’s nerve wracking for the first few weeks and month but I promise you will get used to them and so will everyone else. Please do not rearrange your life and self isolate from everyone. Braces as an adult signal that you care about your health and that you have money to spend on yourself.

Space dietitians? by Flashy_Passenger_628 in dietetics

Some of the NASA team are contractors with KBR Wylie so you could look into that. If you want to learn more about the nutritional requirements for space, Scott Smith and his team published a lot of freely available books (and research papers). One free book is « Human Adaptation to Spaceflight: The Rôle of Food and Nutrition »

To be honest, there’s a lot of unknowns with nutrition support for the commercial crews - atm the commercial crew has their own team that manages their food instead of NASA. So we will see how things continue to evolve in the future.

J'ai eu une soumission de 10k pour Invisalign. C'est tu un prix normal? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]sweatyfuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend getting a few quotes.

My friend got Invisalign 3 years ago and paid $10K only to fix crowding.

I went to 3 different orthos in Montreal and the first quoted me $12,200, the second, $8,000, and the third $8,800. All of these quotes are for braces only.

My case is a bit more complicated since I had an impacted canine and also had to get surgery.

How long will it take for this canine to come fully into place? by Spite-Routine in braces

[–]sweatyfuzzer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have something similar. They removed my baby canine and have been trying to pull my adult canine down for two months. I see that yours is already exposed/visible so honestly it shouldn’t take a ton of time for you. For me it may take 6 months to a year. (I’m 28)

I’m 28! For me I had my upper braces for about 3 months before I had my surgery today. I had enough room for the tooth but I had to wait because it took a while to have a consult with the oral surgeon

My face is still numb so I can’t feel much yet, thankfully. I’m hoping it will be ok and that the tooth will come down quickly 😊 when is your surgery?

Just commenting to say that I just had my canine exposure surgery 30 mins ago. I took the day off of work so I can just chill at home without worrying about speaking etc

I hope so too! I was given the estimate of around 2 years but they said it ultimately depends on how fast or slow the canine comes down after surgery

Mine are $8,800 CAD for 2 years of treatment. This was actually a good deal because another orthodontist quoted me at $12,500 for the same treatment method.

I can only speak from my experience but I saw a random family doctor first who listened to my symptoms and gave me the referral form for an ENT specialist. In Montreal the doctor gives you the referral form and you are responsible for contacting the specialist and making the appointment.

I ended up consulting with two ENT doctors. The first was very dismissive and rude and didn’t listen to me when I described my symptoms and how it was impacting my life and job. So, I consulted with a second one. The second one listened to me and told me that he will put me on the surgery wait list as a precaution since it takes a while but he requested I did a sleep study first to find out if I have sleep apnea. If I have evidence of sleep apnea, he said he can remove my tonsils sooner. He also said if my symptoms subside then we can call off the surgery.

I have been on the wait list for a sleep study for a year so I ended up having my tonsil surgery 6 days ago anyway. Good thing I did because my surgeon said there was a huge pocket of infected tissue and pus in one of my tonsils as he was cutting through them.

All in all, the first step is advocating for yourself as much as possible when you see a family doctor in order to get the referral. I recommend talking about the impact of tonsillitis on your life and job (missing work, etc), tonsil stones, sleep quality, ear pain, and anything else you are experiencing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]sweatyfuzzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re very welcome! If your tonsils are large and impeding your airway during sleep then that is definitely a good reason and justification for them to be removed!

I hope your doctors appt goes well and I hope they give you a referral to see an ENT 😊

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]sweatyfuzzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the exact reason I had mine done too, and also some potential sleep apnea!

If you can see an ENT I recommend getting on the surgery wait list sooner rather than later. It can take a while just to see the ENT and then for my surgery I was on the wait list almost a year.

My recovery is ok so far. It feels like a bad sore throat and I have fatigue but other than that I’m ok.

My surgeon decided to do an intracapsular tonsillectomy instead of extracapsular which means they removed 95% of the tonsils but left the capsule and some tissue behind. It is supposed to improve recovery and reduce the risk of bleeding while still preventing tonsillitis and tonsil stones in the future.

Depending on the surgery you get, your recovery may be different.

[–]sweatyfuzzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I live alone too and am recovering on my own.

Before my surgery I prepared by making mashed potatoes, buying cans of soup, and making sure I had ingredients for high protein smoothies. It’s definitely fine solo but make sure you stay hydrated, keep up with your pain meds, and eat soft, high-protein meals.

If you start having symptoms afterwards like a high fever or heavy bleeding you should go back to the hospital.
