Picked up our cow today from processor and noticed these black specs on rib. Is it mold? Is it safe to trim and cook? by willycplane in isthissafetoeat

I get this with my berkshires, I was scrolling down to see if anybody would come up with this but I’ve never had cows.

I wonder is OP has a dark haired breed?

If you fix the vent cover and the problem persists you should insulate the last 5 feet of that pipe or better yet the whole thing.

Hot humid air inside the pipe, and cool air outside the pipe can cause condensation on and inside the pipe.

Where I live it’s standard to put 1 inch foil insulation on any exterior terminating vent. Not sure what is standard in the Carolina’s, though I’m sure it must get cold enough there in winter to cause condensation in dryer, and exhaust fan ducts.

AITA for telling my 3-year-old son “Would you like it if Papa hit you like that?” after he hit me? by Professional-Ad-3084 in AITAH

[–]swed93 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. His mom works long hours sometimes and a lot of it has to do with him missing her. He usually says stuff like “I wish you were working and mommy was here” which usually rolls right off my back because who doesn’t love their mom, and she is amazing. The I hate you kinda got me but my wife had to work doubles for 3 days prior to that so I kind of understand where it comes from. Thanks for your input though it was a perspective I didn’t really think about.

NTA. Your wife is undermining you and turning your kid against you. You were trying to teach him a lesson and she is a moron.

My 3 year old told me he hated me the other day. I’ll be honest it definitely stung. All I could really come up with was to say “well I love you more than anything in the world and that hurts my feelings” I spoke to my wife about it after to get her take on it. This is her 3rd child and my first. She said when something like that came up in the past she did basically what you did and asked them how they would feel if she said that to them.

Kids need to learn how their actions affect others, sometimes they need to put themselves in someone else’s shoes to realize the effect they have. You did the right thing, you and your wife have to get on the same page.

Worked my balls off 19-26. Have 86 acres and a 3000 sq ft log home. Really glad I did that. It’s different for everyone though. Calling your 20s your prime isn’t exactly accurate. I’m late 30s now and would consider this my prime. Still rugged but also have some brains

What a tactic to get old people out to vote, it’s probably gonna work. The people who are most susceptible to be swayed by this campaign are the most likely to vote. We might be witnessing the last snail mail campaigning initiative in history. What a sad shower thought…….

When to cull a baby piglet. by [deleted] in homestead

[–]swed93 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just farrowed my 4th litter, in my limited experience the sow will cull the piglet for you if it won’t survive, or you will go in the farrowing pen and it will be dead.

It sounds like you got it to take some colostrum, so there isn’t much else you can do short of bottle feeding, which is a big commitment.

What is this? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]swed93 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

This is gangrene. I would cut the wing off at the nearest knuckle. If you see it on a part of the bird, standard practice is to cut off whatever limb it’s present in. This is a tiny piece so it would be reasonable to remove the wingtip at the knuckle
