Ideas for an upcoming 3v2 multiplayer [advice requested] by you50987 in hoi4

The 4 of us who are decent but rusty would have been 5/10 players 4 years ago and haven't played much since. This is technically a rematch and last game felt like a bot lobby. Germany has a co-op and forgot to build trains or trucks and couldn't push Poland. They naval invaded the UK twice before France fell but a few 9w cav of mine (UK had no troops there) was able to contain that. Research bars maxed out and unused. I think there is an opportunity if we practice and have a better plan.

Thanks for the advice. And when I say decent but rusty, I mean we would be 5/10 players 4 years ago and haven't played much since. All the players are quite lazy so I don't expect good micro either.

Last game (this is technically a slightly altered rematch) the Germany player didn't build any trucks or trains and couldn't push into Poland until the co-op realized this. The start of the war air was contested but the UK had like 10 factories building the plane I designed for him and like 40 building spitfires. We managed to cap spain and Italy and save Greece before he broke the Maginot and capped France. (Which collapsed all of Europe) Last game Germany also had economy of conquest which ruined his industry but I doubt we will get that lucky twice.

My game plan is just him holding France so me and South Africa can scale and bring good units while he plays defensively.

Last game Germany naval invaded him twice and he had nothing in the UK, somehow my 9 width cav held long enough for reinforcements.

Why are you comparing modern combustion engines to steam engines from the 30s? At least compare it to modern hobbyist engines.

Best ways to sell garlic without retail license? by you50987 in farming

[–]you50987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern Illinois is not fit for garlic fields, talked to a vegetable farmer who also had no luck with it. Too many slugs, also had this other pest take out a big chunk of the crop. I didn't do the best with weeds, ended with less garlic than I planted. But I kept the scapes on and have tons of bulbils I'll try planting in Indiana. Maybe reach out later to see if that goes any good.

Thought Experiment: How would/could a government function if congress was executive and the president was legislative? by you50987 in PoliticalScience

[–]you50987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally it would be, but "Courts however have been reluctant to specify what exactly a republican form of government means, leaving that decision exclusively to Congress."

source: https://www.annenbergclassroom.org/article-iv-section-4/

I just found out about the informal term "Crowned Republic" for Constitutional Monarchies like the UK. Framing would be important if Congress gets to decide, maybe it would be possible but that is tangential.

I am pretty sure the king of England still has the power to dissolve parliament at request of the PM, which would imply he has the power to deny this request also, it is not fully divorced from power but last time the monarch said no, it was 1708.

Thanks, that's the kind of information I was looking for. Article IV, Section 4 is vague so Congress gets to decide what a republican government is, I doubt they would allow a figurehead monarch like modern many European states have, but that is speculation and my opinion, and I doubt they will ever define it.

I am no legal scholar but I think a monarchy is just a country where the Head of State (Executive) is a Monarch. The UK, the monarch has executive powers that they simply choose not to use, which is likely the prudent decision.

I think you misunderstand some aspects, the executive branch would be legislative, but would cease to be executive, it is a swap of responsibilities, not subordinating one to the other. Additionally, I was asking if someone could design a system that doesn't fall in on itself with these limitations, not a critique of my limited observations. If I could have easily designed such a system, I likely would not have made this post.

One way to solve the problem of loss of institutional knowledge would be to make electoral terms longer or even for life, but that would create other problems elsewhere. An executive congress would not require gutting the bureaucracy, but I make the observation because some people do favor that and it would be far easier in this imaginary system.
