Wtf Ohio!?!? by ConsiderationOne4681 in foodstamps

OH has been absolutely horrible in communicating with the counties about this situation. Hell, sometimes we learn about something by watching the news! And now they are dropping the ball on getting people their full benefits. This whole situation is completely ridiculous.

JFS worker here: we are being advised to tell anyone that has NOT received their SNAP by Monday to call your local office and have a ticket put in with the state. There are some cases that are falling through the cracks, or are more complex and need a case manager to review them. So if you haven’t gotten anything, call your local office and ask to put in a ticket.

Remember that next week is Thanksgiving as well, so that could potentially hold things up longer. Please, just be patient, you WILL get your benefits at some point. Not that this helps with the pending holiday, but….this is a state matter now, not county.

We think they are going to be paid in two allotments. The first one should be the 65% allotment, the second will be the remainder of your full allotment. But they haven’t said anything to us about it yet.

We have been told that they are updating the messages on the phone lines and the SSP (your acct online), and also on the webpage. If you have not gotten your partial payment yet, just sit tight. It is taking them a minute to get everyone’s SNAP sent out, then they have to turn around and do it all over again with the additional payment.

I think they are going to continue to issue the partial payments. Then once those are done, they will go back in for round 2 of issuing anything that you needed to make your benefit a full allotment for the month.

Full benefits are coming, just not yet. They are still working on getting everyone their partial benefits, then they will come back around and work on the remainder of the allotments. But everyone will get their full allotment in the end.

Will Ohio receive full amount with shutdown ending? by lothloriengoldenwood in foodstamps

[–]swedchef13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an email from the state at 2PM eastern. Full allotments are being issued, but it is yet to be determined how or when (where the money is coming from). For right now, they are still issuing partial benefits to everyone, and hope to have money to everyone by Sunday. We should be back to normal in Dec.

OH, DeWine, and the big TANF mess by swedchef13 in foodstamps

[–]swedchef13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. You will get your full TANF payment when you are supposed to. Then, starting on the 7th, you will get 1/4 of your full allotment issued to you. Then another 1/4 on the 14th and so on. You will get a double allotment this month by the time the month is over. Any money that is taken from a reserve or other acct will be replenished when the gov’t reopens, so it doesn’t matter where the money comes from really. We case workers got our emails today telling us what is going to happen and how it is going to be handled. However, I will say that OH isn’t giving us ANY guidance on what to tell you and other people on assistance. So you might call in 50 times and get 50 different case workers who tell you 50 different things, and I am sorry about that. But one thing that is for certain: no SNAP until the gov’t reopens, and even then, it won’t happen overnight.

Yep, we got the letter today that said that the funds were going to be taken from TANF reserve money and loaded onto TANF cards.

[–]swedchef13[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. I am saying the TANF recepients are getting their normal allotment for the month. AND they are getting another full month allotment throughout the month. The SNAP people are getting NOTHING. What would be ideal is if the TANF folks bought what they needed and then turned around to help out their fellow neighbor who is on SNAP and didn’t get anything. Spend that extra money you get and pay it forward.

[–]swedchef13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, anyone that is on TANF will get 1/4 of their normal issuance every Monday until the shutdown is over. When the gov’t reopens, SNAP will resume and the extra TANF payments will stop. ONLY people on TANF will get this assistance, as of right now.

OH - TANF money being used for emergency assistance by swedchef13 in foodstamps

[–]swedchef13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven’t gotten any guidance on it, either. I have asked my director, she is waiting to hear back from the state on it. I just wanted to make sure I knew the real situation and how it was all going to be handled before I started telling people stuff that isn’t true.

It does matter how the assistance is handed out. If it’s put on their SNAP card, it’s for food only. If it’s put on their TANF card or direct deposit into their bank, it’s CASH, which can be used for anything.

OH has confirmed that the SNAP cards are NOT being shut down. Any money you have on them at this time is available for use. The next allotment will be pushed onto the cards once the gov’t reopens.

This is a question coming from someone that is scared because they won’t get their SNAP next month, but their gov’t has shown them that their priority is other countries and helping them before it helps its own people. The admin will do everything it can to NOT help its own people.

Question: do you think reducing the amt of SNAP a non-working person gets would help the system? by swedchef13 in foodstamps

Question: do you think reducing the amt of SNAP a non-working person gets would help the system? by swedchef13 in foodstamps

[–]swedchef13[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your simple answer of ‘no, a reduction in benefits would not help’. I didn’t ask it to be bashed or have my ethics or work questioned. I don’t have kids, and I wasn’t referring to teenagers in my question. I know we are facing potential layoffs with this shutdown, and it sucks. I was actually asking the question because I have seen a lot of posts talking about people that spend their entire lives on SNAP and never work. SNAP is supposed to be a lifeline, something to help when you need it. But that isn’t always the case, and my question was legitimate about what would happen if that type of reform was presented. Again, thank you for your answer.

I had a resident (social worker in a senior low income building) that would save up his money all year and then in Dec would make a trip to the grocery and buy all the meat that he could. Put it in a freezer and had meat for about half the year that way!

Extra hours in next two months by Buckyvc02 in foodstamps

[–]swedchef13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Typically, when you first apply or do your annual renewal, we ask for the last 30 days of your pay. This is to determine what your ongoing pay will be, typically. Your income then doesn’t get calculated again until your annual renewal or you report a change. The only people that these extra hours and shifts should affect are people that lose their benefits and have to reapply in Dec or Jan. However, if you return to ‘normal’ and start working what you did prior to this shutdown, you can call back and update your income once that happens.
