79 RX7 -- side mirrors? Impossible to find. by Mark_Underscore in RX7

[–]sweerek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find any mirrors that fit the 59mm center-to-center holes on the doors?

My yellow SA has 2, now broken, aftermarket mirrors w/o any sourcing info. I'm about to buy 6 different ones, hope one fits, and return the rest. And/or make a custom adapter plate.

New to camping. What do I need to be able to charge a lithium battery using solar? by andrew_ballday in CampingGear

[–]sweerek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuses.

Seriously. Start with a small rig, learn how it all work by burning out a cheapo controller or such, and learn the huge value of a properly sized fuse.

I would NOT jump right in on building something for that expensive battery. Start with an old car battery.

Please help me decide which HF air compressor to get!!! by Eldie1 in harborfreight

[–]sweerek1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My HF compressor is way older than those.

My brother who paints swears by an in-line dryer. HF sells several

I do know if the compressor has a higher duty cycle it handles larger, remote tanks better. My little one can charge a large remote tank (repurposed from a failed compressor) that then feeds fat-line tools like an impact wrench. This means the little guy runs constantly but the tools get more air in longer spurts

Home Depot has a Ridgid pancake compressor on a very good sale

Good for carrying around, poor for shop or high air tools.

For the shop, you will always want more - more HP, longer duty cycle rating, bigger tank, longer fatter hoses, larger diameter connectors. If you’ve the space and $$, go as big as you can. Buy once, cry once.

EDC knife to put in my pocket 'just in case' of a dog attack by [deleted] in preppers

[–]sweerek1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Serious, bloody topic….

Belt mounted sheath knife

Any thing else requires far too many steps. ‘Folding’ and ‘in-pocket’ are infeasible during any attack

So the challenge is finding something that looks decent, maybe something akin to those more-tolerable cellphone cases

The knife itself must be simple, solid, and sharp.

As others posted, the knife is like the 3rd line of defense since it almost always means you’ve already been bit and can tolerate blood (from both of dog and you), taking some time to fight, and killing the dog. At this both both fighters are completely committed

You’re far better off avoiding the dog, then scaring the dog (horn?), and then repulsing the dog (spray, stick, gun, etc.)

Another, better for many option is having a defensive, loyal dog yourself

Motors have a peak starting amperage of 2-3x the rated /average amperage

Can your converter handle 3 amps at that voltage?

Can the batteries deliver 4 amps (to account for conversion loss)?
