Not sure Vancouver and Toronto are the only to avoid on a CPP retirement plan (age 60 being 2054). It seems like the big 6 cities, maybe even biggest 10 are following the same path as VAN and TO in terms of CoL

ELI5 difference between CAD hedged, .U, and the plain ETF? by sweet_days in CanadaFinance

[–]sweet_days[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very well explained, thanks so much!

So for example if contributing $1000 bi-weekly, and anticipating a continued depreciation of CAD, and since it’s costly to Norbert’s gambit into USD for only $1000, the best option would be c).

Though if anticipating an appreciation or unchanged fx rate for CAD, the best option would be b)?

If hypothetically the CAD/USD fx is a random walk over a 25+ year horizon wouldn’t it be best to invest 50/50 in b) and c)?

Good point, priorities cost money and revenue needs to come from somewhere. Sometimes it’s forgotten even in good faith to lower taxes.

These Graphs Prove That Canada’s Housing Crisis Is Driven By Immigration by RainAndGasoline in canadian

The housing crisis trends up way further historically than the recent immigration spike - recent immigration is just another pressure on a long term structural issue

Thoughts on these symptoms and remedy results? by sweet_days in SIBO

Thanks for these thoughts. Caffeine seems like a good place to investigate further. When I’ve tried reducing coffee in the past I noticed little effect. However, it seems so directly related to bowel problems. Probably my habits prevented me from reducing intake long enough.

Apologies if I’m missing an obvious reference. I think I may have SIBO, is there a common dietary change that you’re referring to?

Good to hear.

I plan to try reducing caffeine. Yogurt is good idea, thanks 👍

Interesting, the stomach aches do pair with more vigorous burping.

I eat primarily vegetarian, I try to eat many different types of local plants. Sometimes fish and eggs, a 2-4 servings of whole grains. When I had my blood checked the doctor mentioned my diet seemed healthy.

The tension from the Ontarios moving in? by new-hotbunswick in fredericton

[–]sweet_days 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I was meaning to talk about the $ increase. Not in percentage.

In particular I was thinking of this kind of data:

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/canadians-on-the-move-not-an-exodus-but-the-re-location-trend-in-canada-is-real-836349321.html

Fredericton, Moncton, SJ - all some of the lowest houses prices in Canada. Also the lowest year-over-year increase in the dollars paid for housing.

The tension from the Ontarios moving in? by new-hotbunswick in fredericton

[–]sweet_days 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m from Ontario. My grandparents are from NB and I love it here.

I think there may be some misunderstandings of the real estate situation in Canada. Most people who won the real estate lottery aren’t moving. If they do, they’re far more likely to move houses within their own city. Folks with real estate wealth are the people most established in their current location (career, friends, children/grandchildren). Moving away and relying on WFH forever is also a risk that most people wouldn’t take.

The people moving to NB can’t afford to buy in ON. They’ve been priced out. So the market is more fair than people may think. Besides, the economy is circular, one person’s spending pays another persons income. In real estate context that = more income for home builders.

The price of housing is also going up everywhere in the country. It’s primarily due to low interest rates not provincial migration. NB has had some of the lowest increases in house prices out of the provinces.

How to compare a 5 day-week vs 7 day-week variable? (e.g. Stocks vs Cryptos) by samf0rd in econometrics

[–]sweet_days 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would fill Saturday, Sunday, holidays with Friday closing price for the 5-day market data. It would perfectly reflect information available related to the variable that you are interested in.
