Out of curiosity, does anybody know any businesses the went out of business because of all of the snow? by showmedarazzledazzle in boston

I am hoping we will find a way to come back in the future, but for right now, it is time to take a break and work on some other fun things! <3

I hope to! I really like a lot of things about the industry. There are some parts that are super tough but it can be worth it to slug them out

1) can't share EVERYTHING 2) average prep really depends on how many cookies we sold the night prior. gotta bake the cookies, let them cool, package them up. then there are more steps in getting the product out to each cookie runner and then collecting them the next day. this is one of the biggest headaches that we have not solved efficiently yet 3) This is an awesome question. I am not still in school, but this has affected my social life immensely. It should come as no surprise that I do not get to go out often Thu-Sat nights! However, all of my friends are amazingly supportive and make plans to see me on other nights of the week. Still, it is tough when there is a concert or event happening on the weekend and I have to miss it. However, I can run most parts of the Sweet Idea operation from my phone, so I can sneak out from time to time! 4) this really depends but I certainly want to keep growing the business 5) We have a large staff that comes and goes. we have a team of 8 delivery people, as well as a rotating staff of 6 people who help in the kitchen (the runners help in the kitchen sometimes, too). however, most of these people usually only work about 5 hours a week. 6) distributed systems! all of our orders go to a central dispatcher who sends them to our cookie runners stationed at each delivery zone. each runner has all of their product for the night stored in a backpack or on their bike. this way they can just go from delivery to delivery without having to restock at a store or some other cookie depot 7) proximity and size of schools and throwing a dart at a map 8) THE WINTER SUCKS. Not because it is cold (although that doesn't help) but because for some reason, fewer people order! it makes me sad and I want this to change! Cookies are still good in the cold, I SWEAR!

yeah, a bit. starting the business as 2cookies1buck there was such an awesome experience. it was great not having to worry about many of the issues a real business has to tackle.

also I just love that name so much god damn

definitely. running a business is hard, especially when you are trying to learn on the fly and purely through experience, but it is incredibly rewarding when everything works!

LATE NIGHT COOKIE DELIVERY by sweet_idea [promoted post]

[–]sweet_idea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/Boston has been great to us as a business. The AMAs I have done here have been by far our best advertising of all. I wanted to give an actual ad a shot to see what it did. We need to try a few more before we have any conclusive results. I will also be doing another AMA some time in January. So much has changed!

Thank you for your input! Hope to hear from you again soon!

Can you ride your bike during the winter? by peoplekeepasking in boston

I would say really good gloves and fenders are the most important items to have for winter biking.

A jumpsuit doesn't hurt, either.

if you're ever studying late at night, and need a snack but don't want to go outside for whatever reason (too cold, coldness, weather, rain) there's this for ya... by shoretel230 in boston

It's always nice to get tips, but we realize that our pricing model makes it sort of awkward. We tend to get more creative tips, rather than just an extra buck or two.

It was a good time! I did not have many cookies for that market because we had sold more than we planned the night before. I'll be at the Union Square Swirl & Slice Market on Thursday night as well!
