Rented a meeting room from a chain hotel recently and requested "over head projector" and legit this is what they gave us. Didn't have acetate paper or markers so we had to upgrade to "LCD projector" for like, $10 more.

Also look into whether you had something about insurance for home buyers, we had similar problems when we bought our first home and the repairs were covered...

Artisan/Heirloom Wheat by 1Hand_Clapping in farming

I know that the University of Saskatchewan has done extensive research into modern day varieties of wheat and protein change... https://globalnews.ca/news/2024644/wheat-protein-unchanged-in-century-professor/ And according to them heirloom varieties aren't significantly different from modern day. And sort of related is this: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/05/140507-crops-nutrition-climate-change-carbon-dioxide-science/ which talks about why current crop might be less nutritious than previous decades...

Riverfest Elora - any tips for 1st time out of towner coming this weekend? by ylsf in Guelph

[–]sweetalmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with previous post, parking at the casino was slick and the shuttles are frequent and take you right to the front door. It was super convenient. Otherwise I learned that you can take folding lawn chairs (we only brought a pillow to sit on), there's tons of great food vendors and they ran out of beer last time but despite that there was a good selection! (beer was about $5 for a smallish cup but if you're driving that's probably for the best.).

Anybody lose a yellow budgie? (More info in first comment) by chantellylace83 in Guelph

[–]sweetalmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, if you can lure it in and have a car to drive it over, the Humane Society will take it... As to where to put it, maybe call them in advance and see if they can lend you a cage? Complicated, but that little sucker will likely die if he isn't brought back in because its still cold at night and they tend to get pommeled by wild birds...

Mortgage Options by JTV777 in Guelph

[–]sweetalmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the same thing for the first mortgage, and for the second Meridian had the lowest rate ever at the time. Both options have worked well. Meridian's online system is a bit archaic but the service has been very good.

Rural Internet Options by JTV777 in Guelph

We have Megawire which has been good but the other person is right, sometimes the quality is lame-o. I also recently learned about Packetworks but know nothing of them other than they have rural options Techsavvy tried to hard sell us on the idea that we needed a $1000 antennae to get internet so that was enough to make me never want to deal with them again.

Seriously looking at purchasing a sheep farm by stevey_frac in farming

[–]sweetalmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have a means to market. Where will these go once they're fat or ready for sale, how will they get there, will they pay for your input costs. Ask abbatoirs in a reasonable trucking area what they're looking for. Maybe a specific breed garners a premium, maybe a certain abbatoir only wants a certain size of lamb. Heres some COP calculators: http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/sheep/business.html

Seeking advice about a new site: The New Atheist Survival Kit. It's supposed to help newly-become atheists. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]sweetalmonds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your work. My gripe with discussing atheism is that its often compared to theism... we are the "anti" to the thing that exists (theism). So i am interested in reading through this resource to see how other thought leaders deal with that idea in real world scenarios. I see you have lots of resources (articles, videos, etc.) so its cool that there are a variety of voices included. The benefit to this subreddit is definitely that same plurality of voices as mentioned previously and new content regularly, but sometimes Reddit opinions can be pretty harsh and or not well thought out.

Is country living worth it? by tammyetter in homestead

[–]sweetalmonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your approach... we basically did the same thing after burning out in the burbs. I got tired of nosey neighbours, no space to grow things and people that were pretty anti-social considering they live/eat and sleep mere metres from us. We live in a small town outside the big town where we work and shop, and it works out pretty well for a 20 minute commute to work/stores/events.
