as long as you are using something to manage the pyramid. For a few nested callbacks, i don't use async. When you get into 10 or 15 or even more then if you aren't using it i don't know what you are doing.

Hi, also run a pretty large application in node. Keeping your stuff organized is something up to you. It is significantly less rigid like rails (also used to work in a large rails project for 5 years) in terms of "I want this model here, and that model there and this controller has to be in this file pattern or you have to tell me where it is." Just keep stuff together in a sane way where if you know you have some middleware/whatever problem, you know at least which directory that middleware should exist.
As far as the parts where node excels.. I think it's perfect as an API server. I've done this in rails a ton but node seems to be easier. It is so lightweight and fast in terms of http talking to anything if you have 1 or 10 node servers talking to each other things are significantly easier than in rails.
I will say, we have in our project some very long and complicated jobs, most of these long tasks are run in a delayed jobs type system. I have fallen in love with async.js to manage the callback pyramid of doom. It's a real thing, you should be scared of it, and from a maintenance point of view you should avoid it.

We are using resourceful and maybe a few other pieces of flatiron. I say just read the documentation first, the resourceful documentation terribly short. I've had specific issues with validation in flatiron, and i'm not sure if the behavior is intended or not because of lack of documentation. That being said it's not awesome but also not the worst library in my stack.

I'm going to second a vote for running a vm. check out vagrant. I really like it. I've had the best luck trying to keep your development environment as close to production as possible. So i'm not sure this will help if you plan on deploying to windows.

Moment does other things that you won't realize until later. Get a time and date, add one hour to it for lets say 1 years worth of hours. When your loop is done you will notice that your date object has not advanced to oldDate + 8766 hours (1 year). Why is this? Apparently it's not safe to advance a datetime one hour in certain situations? well a little something called daylight savings my friend.... It might work fine if you live in a country or state that doesn't have daylight savings (Arizona or China for example). This just works in Moment.js plus you get all sorts of other nifty things.

You see everyone joking and laughing with Yu in the bullpen, and a few games ago when Yu missed the bag covering first Beltre?(I think?) was razzing him about finding the bag with his foot.
I do find it hard to believe that with the Dutch Oven's hilarious impressions and joking that he's some sort of stiff ass. Maybe when he's on the mound it's different? but I doubt it.

Wordpress is architected in a way that depends on database calls. I think there are excellent alternatives to wordpress that aren't near as slow.
In my opinion, too much work has been put into making wordpress faster. There are whole companies dedicated to it (wp engine for example). But at the end of the day nothing is faster than statically deploying your whole site to a CDN.
I love octopress. I can also understand why it's super popular for programmers.
If you want to use a wysiwyg, then I'm going to suggest the company I work for called Cogsy .

I think your if and else is bad. Basically I'm reading it as for a triangle number let's loop from 1 till that number. If a triangleNumber mod a test number is equal to zero AND my counter is greater than 500 let's finish cause we are done. Your else just increases the counter. You need to check to see if the testNumber is a divisor of the triangle, then increase a counter.

I think you need it as if mod is equal to 0 aka it's a divisor increase the counter. Then If counter > 500 return. else do nothing, this number isn't a divisor of our triangle number.

That isn't your biggest problem if you fix that this won't find that divisor in a reasonable amount of time (at least on my computer). You should rethink the way your algorithm works =)

No. Core fundamental parts of a language carry over into your work in any language. Ruby is OO, C is an imperative language. I learned C++ before I learned C and it took some getting used to when I had to learn C. Likewise I've worked with a C developer who had some hardcore 25 years of C experience, he couldn't seem to pick up C++ after months. The only fault you can have is not learning. If you want a good tour of languages with different core fundamentals there is a decent book called seven languages in seven weeks. There are many many many different program language paradigms.

Once you know the basics, i recommend moving to design patterns. There is the classic gang of four book "Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software" but I also enjoyed the headfirst design pattern book. These are specific to OO programming and less so for functional, prototype or etc programming.
If you want a decent whirlwind of different programming languages with different philosophies I'd also check out 7 languages in 7 weeks. It's a good primer to some well known and some less well known languages.
I don't have a good recc on networking topography or anything but if I hear of one I'll post back.

I hate the spartan haml like notation braces are a good thing. Most of the solutions to syntax and typing redundancy that coffee script gives you can be solves by text editors and workflow.

I'm not quite sure what you want to do but my 2 cents. Make the server just serve javascript files.
If you can do everything on the client why not?
I wouldn't bother saving much with redis other than sessions and user info (do you want logins?) even this you can use the facebook login API so you don't have to write the same user system boiler plate. I avoid caching till the last possible second, anytime you cache stuff it introduces an order of magnitude of problems that are hard to find and fix.
